Re: O2 Desaturations and Periodic Breathing on XPAP

Snnnark, it is for my DH and he has heart disease. (I'm the supportive spouse, in-home investigator and researcher and patient advocate.) Finding 'competent' doctors is on the top of our list right now. To suggest some doctors are incompetent, ruffles feathers because even the incompetent ones 'have...

Re: O2 Desaturations and Periodic Breathing on XPAP

Any desat below 88% is considered significant. I would bring this to your doctors attention. Snnnark, thanks for the reply! I thought so too. I'll be looking for another doctor (in the Toronto area, anyone have recommendations?) I've already showed the data to the current doc at the last appointmen...

O2 Desaturations and Periodic Breathing on XPAP

If you are on xpap, what is considered significant O2 desaturations warranting further investigation, especially if this occurs during episodes of periodic breathing? I've noticed that every night there is periodic breathing present (less than 10%), and most nights there is usually 2-3 desat events ...

Re: Update - Respironics PR System one - stop and start

We're having the same issues as well. Auto Off and Auto On are both off. Last night Walter woke up because the machine beeped at him and shut off. He awoke in a state of panic and told me the machine shut itself off. Data below. The 1am wake up wave form: http://img836.imageshack.us/img836/7720/0224...

Re: How much magnesium for insomnia??

I've used magnesium, melatonin and B6 to help with insomnia. This combination especially quiets down sleep-onset hypnic jerks, and periodic limb movement, at least, by my observations. From my experience, the 3 work better together than just Mg or melatonin alone. In fact, for my husband, this combo...

Re: Issues with CMS50E pulse oximeter - new and different issues

The red icon is for live SPO2 recording while the pulse-ox is attached to the computer via usb. If you have the 50E plugged in to USB cable, start the red icon, and then turn on your pulse-ox and put you finger in. The readings will show on your screen. Does this work for you? Have you tried uninsta...

Re: Titration Rx: The Results are In?

Any doc can write a prescription for a machine. I did not like what the sleep doc wanted me to have so went to my family practice doc and asked him to write one for the machine I wanted. He did so without any problems. Maybe if you have a good doc they will do that for you. My doc asked me what pre...

Titration Rx: The Results are In?

The OFFICIAL titration study was a disaster. My husband told the sleep tech before-hand that the trial pressure of 8 cm was not enough pressure and he felt like he was suffocating. So what does the tech do? Start the study with a pressure of 5cm! Of course, he never fell asleep, and complained about...

Re: Windows Vista Software for CMS 50E Pulse Oximeter (V. 9.82)

This version works with Windows 7 x64. Thanks remstarcpap!
The version that came with the 50E on CD (v0.981) kept giving me a Com3 error when I tried to upload the data. (The 50E I have came with firmware v6.6 installed.)

Re: Shortage of distilled water in NE US (Connecticut)?

I use distilled water when making herbal decoctions or coffee. I bought 2x 1 gallon MegaHome distiller a few years ago because I hated lugging the water containers home when I could find them. It comes in handy now for filling up the humidifier, and other projects when distilled water is called for....

Re: Strange Swift FX problem

Walter (DH), is in-between a medium and a large fit of the pillows, but the large felt much more comfortable for him. However, when using the large, he developed large leaks through the night (probably while changing positions) that show up on the software. The leak noise doesn't wake him, but it wa...

Re: Sleep Study Results

Hi Randy! Pay close attention to the Oxygen levels in that write-up! You may want to consider buying an oximeter and monitoring yourself, especially if you have other serious health issues. ConTec CMS-50E is the one I have on order, thanks to recommendations in these forums. You still feel tired, be...

Re: What Canadians need to know about APAP, in detail & Verbatim

Thanks for this thread JayJ. It is timely. My husband has been diagnosed with OSA with AHI of 50.1 and oxygen desaturation of 82%, and the starting trial Rx is 7-8. He was given a firm NO! when I asked the doctor about an Auto Rx. This whole process took 4 weeks. (From sleep study to seeing the slee...
