Re: Help please - Time to upgrade my BiPAP Auto

Hi Cascade. A bit off topic, but I am ready to get a new machine as well and also trying to get in before the end of the year as I have met my out of pocket max. This is my first time using insurance. I self-diagnosed 8 years ago and bough a System One Auto CPAP machine off the street not having ins...

Re: Second Hand Smoke

Hi Jen, Sorry, I intended to address the smoking issue with crashnose but I put your name in there by mistake. I corrected my post. I started to write more than a few paragraphs about your right to a smoke free environment, but I deleted it as being too off topic. The part that I will leave in this ...

Re: Nasal Congestion and Remedies - Add Yours

Hello, this is sydney. Boy it's been 3.5 years since I posted the first message? Made myself laugh when reading it again (especially about the silver ions). Jen, I got rid of my children but kept the dogs ... just kidding! Well, moving from Portland Oregon to Phoenix Arizona was the biggest "cure" f...

Re: Medical procedure that helped me tremendously

Thanks for the post McSleepy. My nose has been completely congested (but drips constantly) due to allergies for two months (allergies seem to be worse than ever; global warming or is it Bush number 2's fault?), and thus no CPAP as I don't have a full-face mask. This after I had very good CPAP result...

Re: so what's the deal with mouth taping?

Oh my gosh, mouth taping! I tried that once as I was waking up with very dry and painful mouth and throat and suspected mouth breathing. Purchased expensive "sensitive skin" paper tape at Walgreens and gave it a try. Woke up the next day with the tape sealing my lips very effectively but still had t...

Bacteria Filter

Thinking hospitals and germs, I was thinking a hospital setting would be a great time to consider a bacteria filter for the CPAP machine. I can't find any bacteria performance information on the Philips website for their bacteria filter (doesn't even show up) or anywhere else to find out what the pa...

Re: Hatin on the Facehugger - feel Apnea is self-inflicted

Ditto what Weezy said. After a couple of weeks of CPAP therapy you will regain that desire to exercise and adjust your diet. That Bowflex is not going to look so daunting as it did before. You are going to start to want that body you see in the Bowflex commercials. I started exercising again (mini t...

Re: CPAPs vs. O2 lines in hospital

Already stated, but just to reiterate, if your airway is blocked by OSA, O2 is not going to get in there. I would suspect, though, that when you do breath, the increase in O2 concentration will help your body get through those times when your airway is blocked and you are experiencing O2 desaturatio...

Re: Possible heart Disease from OSA...:(

Your doctor might be referring to venous insufficiency where the one-way valves in the veins of the leg become insufficient to prevent blood from flowing backwards (back down the leg) between heartbeats. Don't Google venous insufficiency because it will only depress you and it may be for naught. If ...

Re: Help...CMS50F Pulse Ox Help..

Sorry, I have one more question that I forgot. On the pulse ox that I own ( I just got is this week) I was wondering about the prongs inside of the pulse ox itself, where you plug in the finger probe..mine looks like it is missing one. It looks like one is broken off. Does yours have all 6 prongs o...

Re: Possible heart Disease from OSA...:(

Regarding the water, I have to caution you in that if you are on meds to control water retention or other meds for high blood pressure, or whatever, that may be an issue. You should confirm our advice with your doctor. I still think it is ok; doctors don't seem to ask or care about the "how much wat...

Re: Possible heart Disease from OSA...:(

I just ran across this. It seems that there is a "loose" correlation between edema and dehydration. Before doing anything drastic, you may want to explore drinking an extra liter of water for a couple of days and see if that helps. This seems counter intuitive on the surface, but this is supposed t...

Tonsil and Uvula surgery

Although tonsil and adenoid removal might be helpful, stapling your uvula sounds ridiculous to me since you are getting relief using CPAP. Never heard of stapling, shortening maybe, but not stapling. Shortening has low success and high complication rates. Below is a cut and paste of a post of mine: ...
