Re: Jaw surgery
When considering jaw surgery to address sleep apnea, it's absolutely CRITICAL to ensure the jaw surgeon has trained and performed hundreds of MMA surgeries specifically treating sleep disordered breathing. Very few of these surgeons exist and many don't accept insurance. All jaw surgeons are not cr...

Re: Experience with sleep tracking devices?
So the Zeo mobile won't work? That's the only unit for sale on eBay Do these function without the web service to go with them? I have no objective way of monitoring my treatment at home. In particular, I'd like to see if there's any improvement from using a MAD. I need jaw surgery anyway for functio...

Experience with sleep tracking devices?
Other than a SpO2 monitor, I found the following devices or sale which track sleep: Beddit Sleepace S+ by Resmed Zeo (out of business and presumably useless now?) Anyone have experience with these? I'm interested in them because they can measure breathing activity. However, they're tailored toward i...

Re: What do you make of this oximetry report?
It looks relatively good only because of my relatively young age (34). My last sleep doc said they don't really see desats until you're older. How accurate is the pulse data? It doesn't look great even when I'm using CPAP. Then again, neither did my RDIs on my last sleep study at Stanford. About the...

What do you make of this oximetry report?
I used my CMS-50F last night with an OTC MAD set to 5mm and a chin strap to keep it in place and this is the report . It was uncomfortable so I set the alarm to only test for 3 hours, which should be enough for a REM cycle. My AHI in the lab 3 years ago when I was ~20lbs lighter was 50. I don't plan...

Re: Why do we need a prescription for a face mask?
I've gotten the same run around too. Different DMEs have different policies. Seems stupid to bother a doctor for a new prescription simply to change mask types. Fortunately, it doesn't apply to the specific mask model. That being said, I think full face masks can be used to make meth so I can see ho...

Re: Opinion about mandibular advancement devices
It got smaller after molding. Still pretty big. Moving teeth and TMJ problems are scary but I only need it for a few experiments.

Opinion about mandibular advancement devices
I just got an OTC mandibular advancement device (SnoreRX) and am really surprised at how big it is. I have a rather large open bite already. I can fit this too but once in my mouth is really wide open. Are they all like these? I'm supposed to be testing out a custom made one but if it's going to be ...

Re: Mixed on MMA surgery, advice needed
So you were retrognathic? I can definitely see it in that case. Arthritis and joint problems are common as well in those cases. My cousin had that surgery done and said about the same. My jaws are actually quite large already, with space for wisdom teeth. It's going to feel weird having the wisdom t...

Re: Mixed on MMA surgery, advice needed
Yup I already saw Dr Li (along w/Dr Gunson and a local surgeon). They're all comparably experienced (~1k surgeries) with similar plans so I'm thinking right now that if I do it I'd go with the local surgeon. None of them ventured to advise as to whether it's necessary. Dr Li is out of all networks. ...

Re: Myapnea.org
I read an article about it but I don't recall where it is anymore. It's being founded by a doctor associated with Harvard, who claims to have diagnosed his son at 2. The description didn't impress me at the time but the amount of money he procured for it did (tens of millionsI think).

Re: Mixed on MMA surgery, advice needed
Yes I'm considering MMA for jaw problems. Fixing the sleep apnea would be icing on the cake. However, the jaw surgeries would be quite different. Absent the sleep apnea, it would be a single jaw with only a small movement. Little facial profile change and lower risk to nerves. For sleep apnea, it's ...

Mixed on MMA surgery, advice needed
I've been researching MMA surgery for some time now. It started with some orofacial pain about a year ago. I first visited Dr Scrivani at the MGH pain clinic for advice. He had a very strong anti-surgery stance. I put it off for a while, visited a local oral surgeon, and then did physical therapy. T...

Re: Resmed Airsense 10 announced today. US availability 8/18/14
Often times new products contain improvements that aren't documented. What you can say to investors and what you can say to engineers are totally different. And for that matter, engineers wouldn't bother to document many of the changes, as the list would be too long and the process too cumbersome. N...
