Obstructive Sleep Apnea Recurs Quickly When CPAP Withdrawn Laurie Barclay, MD August 11, 2011 — Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) recurs quickly when continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is withdrawn, according to the results of a randomized controlled trial reported online August 10 in the Ameri...

Re: Newbie here...
Couple things for thought: While I'm glad to hear that you've been offered more than one mask to try, keep in mind that most DMEs will replace your mask free of charge within the first 30 days of you using it. Perhaps you have the correct size mask, but not the correct mask for your face. Very, very...

Re: Newbie here...
skipperT, Welcome! Learning more about your therapy will do nothing but positive things for you. Emilia had already pointed you to the CPAP Wiki: a valuable & plentiful resource. You can also use the search box at the top to search for threads on your mask, machine, etc. For instance, if you search ...

Re: POLL: Must-have mask features
cflame1, Interesting that you bring that up; I've heard a number of opinions that came to the same conclusion around the Activa. Correct me if I'm wrong, but no one wants to ratchet down the headgear straps if they can get a good seal with a looser fit! Besides the above, what does the Activa provid...

Re: Adjustment phase for a Newbie CPAP user ?
pearlr, Welcome! There's no lack of answers and opinions around here... you've come to the right place! I am concerned that the entire reason for getting a CPAP mask is getting defeated if he's not getting a restful nights sleep . While he is getting frustrated ; he's still not ready to give up ( YE...

Re: POLL: Must-have mask features
Different seals for regular CPAP use certainly deserve further exploration, considering (to your point, archangle), there are a number of products that currently require adhesive to skin contact on a daily basis and have had success.
Lots and lots of great ideas - many thanks, as always!

Re: OT: Losing a pet
Jeanette, I'm so sorry for your loss. The hurt runs deep. Stephen is right - and there's scientific evidence to prove it - that our pets have a profound influence on our psychological and physical well-being, and us on theirs. Ditto, re: my cat from childhood, who died when I was 23. It was my first...

Re: POLL: Must-have mask features
archangle, I like your ideas surrounding different kinds of seals - if masks were anywhere as annoyingly sticky as cling wrap, I suspect many problems would be solved. (I can't even begin to describe some of my personal battles trying to put leftovers away...) The primary concern would then become m...

Re: POLL: Must-have mask features
McSleepy, Thanks for the info on neoprene. While it's not used in any of Sleepnet's headgear, I'd still be interested in any outstanding experiences. Your point about contamination carries a lot of weight, and serves to highlight the importance of consumer education and manufacturer disclosure. I'd ...

Re: POLL: Must-have mask features
(Opted to break this up instead of posting a dissertation.) Stormynights, Fair pricing must be a priority - for the manufacturer, the distributor, and the patient. Most masks fall somewhere in the $75-$150 range (although we know this can vary GREATLY), and many individuals that either choose to or ...

nanwilson, You're story......!!! Oh my goodness - an EXCELLENT example of the need for quick-release clips. PS. Glad your mask lived to see another day! Re: POLL: Must-have mask features
chunkyfrog, That's a really interesting paradigm. I would imagine there would still be surprises with pressure points and sealing, but to your point, perhaps total mis-fits and flunks could be eliminated, starting the user out with a better set-up and eliminating expensive, barely used masks. robysu...

Good point about the reassembly, Janknitz. There's no need to piece together a space shuttle every night before bed.

Re: I have a Thyroid Nodule
tattooyu,
The idea of some connection between thyroid nodules and OSA is interesting... I'll keep an eye out for articles.
Just wanted to let you know that you've got one more person crossing their fingers for you.
Best to you and your family,
Jess
