Re: I was optimistic and determined
I started PAP back in August with a ResMed S9 and nasal pillows. Initially, things were great, but over the last few months I've noticed (or I should say my wife noticed!) that my mouth was opening during sleep. I started using polident strips on my lips to keep the mouth closed and this has worked ...

Re: Waking up before sunrise
My sleeping patterns changed radically. Before PAP, I would always need an alarm to wake up, otherwise I would sleep 9 hours and still wake up groggy. Now, I will go to sleep at 11 or 12, and wake up between about 4:30 and 6 AM, feeling very much awake. There have been times when I've woken up aroun...

Re: A question for the LADIES only
Hope you don't mind another guy chiming in: There is some research on hormonal levels and xPAP therapy showing that testosterone levels go up after a few months. The hypothalamus (part of the hormone regulation system) really does need quality sleep to function correctly. I'm pretty sure that everyb...

Re: Will i really get use to this?
I'll chime in here and add that it took me a week too, before I really felt confident that this therapy was working and wasn't just a placebo effect. Compliance is key - I am still feeling improvement after 3 months and will now do whatever I can to use the machine every night. Lots more energy and ...

Re: Camping?
I recently went camping for 2 nights with a ResMed S9 and a modified sine wave inverter - my battery was a 100+ AH deep-cycle marine battery, and according to ResMed, that should be enough to support me for 5 days or so if the humidifier's off - I kept EPR and Autoset on.

Re: Back (supine) Sleeping
Same here...My sleep doc and I discussed this when I went for the followup to my titration study. Turns out that with CPAP I stay supine all night (but without CPAP I'm all over the place), but this is fine if the therapy is working. My AHI was 11 on average but 22 supine, but usually <1 with thera...

Re: Why Does Lack of Sleep Affect Us Differently? Maybe genes?
Interesting. I'll add a data point: before APAP, I would NEED to sleep at least 7 hours, preferably 9, to feel anywhere near rested. In retrospect, I wasn't really rested, just "less tired than I would have been". Post-APAP, I generally sleep for 5 or 5.5 hours per night, usually going to bed at 11-...

Re: I got complimented on my toes (NOT off topic)
Better "hormonal balance" in general - My skin seems a bit oilier / moister - I see the same improvement in my toenails.
MUCH more energy - for the first time in my life (really!) I feel the need to "burn it off" / exercise.
I suspect increased testosterone levels, too.

Re: Newbie would like to hear success stories, please.
My experience is a bit like Weddingpayer's - I went for a sleep study (AHI 11.5, 22 on my back) and subsequent titration in August, and have been on a ResMed S9 with nasal pillows for about a month. Within a couple of days I would wake up in the morning feeling like I'd already had 2 cups of coffee!...
