Re: Non-prescription oral appliances

I'm less concerned about the clenching as the effectiveness of reducing snoring/apneas. Clenching I think developed as a direct result of the apnea, so id rather treat that.

Non-prescription oral appliances

As my public struggles against my CPAP continue, I'm wondering if there is an in-the-meantime-experiment worth trying. I had been dually recommended the CPAP and oral appliance made by a dentist, but my sleep specialist strongly suggested the CPAP. I'm not in a position to get an oral appliance from...

Re: How long did it take your centrals to go away after starting

My most recent study at Stanford saw them prescribe a pressure of 11 after the half an half. Previously I was on auto6-10 where the 90% pressure was 8. My centrals for the first night were 15 an hour I think. After that I went down to 8, where the centrals decreased to 6 or 7 an hour.

Re: How long did it take your centrals to go away after starting

Unfortunately i don't have digital copies of those studies nor have I even seem the half and half from Stanford so I'm not sure. During the half and half they significantly bumped the pressure up so I doubt they were seeing centrals, unless they all don't care about them.

Re: How long did it take your centrals to go away after starting

I have had both, one full CPAP and one half and half. On the first study ever with CPAP the titration study, there were no centrals, nor on the half and half. My techs never mentioned seeing any so I didn't know they were happening until I did a download myself. They kept upping the pressure.

How long did it take your centrals to go away after starting

Hey all, Still in dire straights, I'm off CPAP after trying it again for 2 weeks. My downloads all showed that my apneas, which were all obstructive and hypopneas, were gone (down to 1 an hour each or so) but they were replaced by central apneas which were not present in the studies without CPAP. Tw...

Re: at-home methods?

Yeah, i guess it's a bit of desperation. CPAP still isn't quite doing it, I still get a lot of centrals that doesn't seem to be going away. I was told most centrals were a matter of adjusting, but I'm not sure about these. :\

Re: Newbie looking for help... Nasal mask Vs. Nasal pillow

I'll mirror everyone's 'personal choice' sentiments, but there are some pretty obvious advantages to nasal pillows. I started off with a nasal mask, but it was both a physical and mental battle for me, because I had to constantly adjust it as I moved around to keep leaks away, and that took a toll o...

at-home methods?

Hey all, been a while. CPAP is not going particularly well. I'm still really tired, depersonalized and groggy. I had a couple of thoughts though, and wanted to probe your fine opinions. First, I know that I have GERD. I've treated it sporadically in the past, once actually resulting in a lot of reli...

Re: CPAP making AHI go up?

Last night was night 4 of the swift pillow/pressure 8 combo. I'm not giving up on that particular combo, but things aren't improving. I actually feel quite bad at the moment.

last night.

Re: sleep aids at start of treatment

OK, well I'm not quite willing to risk more centrals for the sake of ease. Do things like melatonin and valerian cause centrals too?

sleep aids at start of treatment

Hey all, Since I'm sort of re-starting the treatment this week after a long time of non-compliance, I was wondering what the effects of some OTC sleep aids would be on the efficacy of the treatment. My first concern is that I know some sleep aids cause respiratory slowing, relaxation that can increa...
