Re: POLL: What is your TYPICAL nightly AHI?
My impression was that most ResMed users still had AI that were significantly higher than their HI. That wouldn't be my impression. I'd think it would probably be the other way around for most ResMed users -- an HI (hypopnea index) significantly higher than their AI (apnea index.) Such adjustments ...

Re: darn, i'm a mouth breather :(
After a month of trying different things, I've found the most comfort from the Swift LT for Her (nasal pillows), the Ruby chin strap (I put in on first) and two band-aids criss-crossed over my mouth. My leaks are very low and my AHIs are good. (and I'm fairly comfortable). Just a thought. Best of lu...

Re: OT: What does everybody do for a living?
I'm a high school ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher. Most of my students are Latino and I adore them!! I've been in education for 25 years. The first 10 I taught Spanish, the second 10 I was a high school assistant principal -- (I think that's when I started noticing my sleep deprivation......

Re: Nasal Pillow Users -- 50 ways to seal your mouth
Has anyone seen any posts where some sort of chin support lifts it up and attaches to the mask (whether nasal or otherwise) device itself. There's the "RipVW100" chin strap, that fits onto the mask straps: http://cgi.ebay.com/CPAP-Chin-Strap-Sleep-Apnea-Chinstrap-RipVW100-/270439367613?pt=LH_Defaul...

Re: Nasal Pillow Users -- 50 ways to seal your mouth
I'm right there with you (except for the facial hair)! And like you, my latest "love" is the Swift LT (for Her). It does seem like there would be a better way, doesn't it? Like you, I too, have an overbite which complicates that whole closing the mouth thing. I seem to do well until an hour or two b...

Re: The air is going into my GI (stomach), mini-burps, etc
Thanks! I didn't know if it was common with CPAP or not. Sounds like it is. Another friend just told me that having an "auto adjust" feature on my CPAP machine will help. I'm thinking the machine I have now must not do that? So should I be sure my next CPAP machine does have that auto feature? I am...

Re: Sleep Doctor Visit: Aerophagia and Changing Our Pressures...
...a few possibilities come to mind regarding your AHI variability. One is sleep position; many people experience more severe sleep apnea while sleeping on their backs, while a few experience increased severity while side sleeping. Another possibility is excessive leaks; more than a few of our poste...

Re: Sleep Doctor Visit: Aerophagia and Changing Our Pressures...
Well, the good news is....last night, I slept in my Swift LT for Her and was back down to AHI of 3!! Interesting...All else staying the same, it appears that my body did not care for the Liberty Hybrid! The 2 nights I spent on the Liberty had much higher AHI! Switching back to straight nasal pillows...

Re: Sleep Doctor Visit: Aerophagia and Changing Our Pressures...
Thanks, Guys! I agree...I don't like having 11+ events per hour! And I am very very tired today! I hate to go against doctor's orders, but something isn't working here...I may try one more night and then give him a call tomorrow if those numbers are still that high.

Re: Sleep Doctor Visit: Aerophagia and Changing Our Pressures...
Something doesn't make sense here. You machine records apneas. It records both central apneas and obstructive apneas. If your results at higher pressure are better, then you doctor's concerns about pressure induced apneas are unwarranted. You would see the central apnea in your data, as apneas, or a...

Re: Sleep Doctor Visit: Aerophagia and Changing Our Pressures...
Really?? I think I may have to re-think that one!! (we did that for the aerophagia, but gas vs. apnea??...hmmm) I don't like these numbers!!
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Sleep Doctor Visit: Aerophagia and Changing Our Pressures...
Ok....maybe 5.8 wasn't statistically significant, but this morning it was AHI 11 !!! AI 10.4, Obs: 7.4, Central 3, Hyp .3 ! Could all of this be from having my EPR set up to 3?? This is almost as high as my initial sleep study!! Should I call the doc? By having set my pressure higher for the past we...

Re: Sleep Doctor Visit: Aerophagia and Changing Our Pressures...
Well, that's essentially what the doc said -- if on average I'm under 5, we're good. I was just hovering around 1-2 with higher pressure and then, bam, up to almost 6 (just looks so icky on the graph with all the little signs popping up...lol). He equated this with a diabetic taking his blood sugar ...

Re: Sleep Doctor Visit: Aerophagia and Changing Our Pressures...
CPAP treatment unmasks/increases that CO2-based sensitivity---resulting in treatment-emergent central apneas. Here are some interesting articles: -SWS, Thanks for these links. Like many here, I have some CA's (about 1.9 to 2.3 per hour), caused/unmasked by xPAP. The PSG reports from my diagnostic a...

Re: Sleep Doctor Visit: Aerophagia and Changing Our Pressures...
If anyone encounters any research that shows that PPIs (proton pump inhibitors) helps aerophagia, please send it my way, as I am very curious about this. There may be a correlation between GERD and aerophagia (because aerophagia may exacerbate GERD), but I know of not one lick of data, other than p...
