Re: Uhoh. 6 months of good sleep and now this.

Now that you say your congestion is under control and from looking at your report i would say you have a leak issue that needs to be addressed. How many times have you replaced those pillows on the swift FX? Resmed pillow quality has deteriorated to the point that some people are only getting 1-2 m...

Re: Uhoh. 6 months of good sleep and now this.

Thanks for the replies. I went to sleep very early last night, used my full face mask, and got about 10 hours of sleep with the mask on. I feel a bit better today although still not 100%. I'm going to do a few more days with the full face mask and see how it goes. Meanwhile, I called my DME supplier...

Uhoh. 6 months of good sleep and now this.

I've been using CPAP for about 8 months, the last 6 months have been great - using a ResMed S9 APAP with humidifier and Swift FX nasal pillow mask. No troubles with the mask, no face irritation, and (usually) 7 good hours of sleep per night. Pressure starts at 9cm and ramps up from there, usually to...

Tough adjustment to nasal pillows

I've been having good success with CPAP treatment overall but the masks have been problematic. I get skin rashes when using nasal masks. Remzzzs liners help but don't solve the problem completely. So I thought I'd try nasal pillows. Got a ResMed Swift FX set. I'm using the small pillow size. First n...

Re: Help me interpret the reports from my ResMed S9

Sleepers without OSA experience some "events" too, so there's no point in worrying about it overly Thanks, good to know! In terms of your graphs, you seem to be experiencing a number of Central Apneas.... these are non-obstructive apneas which xPAP cannot treat. You may be find that restricting the...

Help me interpret the reports from my ResMed S9

So I've been using my ResMed S9 Autoset for a few days now. Definitely an upgrade over the rental Respironics machine I was using. And now I get access to detailed overnight data Here's a report (PDF) from 2 nights ago. Not the best night of sleep I've ever had, but OK. And here's last night's repor...

What's a good, cheap backup machine?

I am eagerly awaiting delivery of my ResMed S9 Auto tomorrow. Right now I'm getting by with a rental REMStar M-Series A-flex, which has been okay except in the past few weeks it has started behaving strangely on power-up. 75% of the time it goes into error mode, and I have to power-cycle it many man...

Just got a look at my full sleep study. how bad is 74% SaO?

Just got a look at my sleep study. Quoting from the study: "The AHI was 99. SaO during wakefulness was 90%, typical low saturation during respiratory events was in the 75% to 85% range. The lowest SaO was 74%.... effective treatment with nasal CPAP at a pressure of 9cm of H2O. At the CPAP pressure o...

Re: Why do some folks take to cpap so quickly and others do not?

All of you are talking about acceptance, attitude, all of this is correct I think, but I'm going to go with something more prosaic: Think back to a time before you had sleep apnea. Let's say your childhood. Were you a light sleeper or a deep sleeper? Most likely you still are this way. If you were/a...

Re: What is "rested and refreshed" anyway?

Ironically, I used to wake up earlier and more easily when I had untreated severe OSA. My adrenalin was pumping throughout the night as my body strugged to breathe, so waking up was no problem! I just felt tired and hung over all day. The difference after 1 night of CPAP (my lsleep study night) was ...

Re: Need some advice on working with a DME

I live in the city (Manhattan specifically). I called United Healthcare and the rep that answered was clueless about whether they reimburse equipment by code or whether they have a schedule based on prescription type (CPAP vs APAP etc). He did say that there are dollar limits and if you want somethi...

Need some advice on working with a DME

So I had my sleep study a month ago, I've been using a rental unit (paid for out of my own pocket) for the past month while traveling abroad, now it's time to find a DME and get my insurance to pay for a machine that I'll keep long term. I live in New York and my insurer is United Healthcare (POS pl...

Re: Help for my noncompliant father in law?

I've seen a dramatic improvement in my quality of life after starting CPAP and at this point I can't imagine going without it, so to see my father in law suffering from the same symptoms and refusing treatment is very sad. I have told him about my situation and the positive impact that CPAP has had ...
