Re: First time user...lost and need guidance...

Flonase or Nasacort is a good idea for the chronically stuffed. Allegra works well for me and is OTC these days. I have a Neti pot but haven't tried it yet. You are doing the first steps, making sure your machine works properly and working on a mask that fits. I use the Hybrid, a combination nasal a...

Re: Great #'s but still tired!

I don't know how long you had sleep apnea before you started using CPAP. Your brain may be "trained" to wake up periodically during the night. Just like mine is now "trained" to never fall asleep without a mask on. It could also be that you are not fully used to the set-up yet (it does take time) an...

Re: S9 and thermal hose

I have been running higher pressures on the new machine. But I think that is due more to the new mask than the new machine. The Hybrid mask is the first mask that doesn't leak on me (started CPAP in 1996). I got the mask at the same time as I got the new S9. The new S9 has a much, much better humidi...

Re: Hello -- first night using CPAP

Excellent idea Jaylee! That is one of the things I like about my new hybrid mask, I read at night until I fall asleep and if I wait until the last minute to put on my mask, it wakes me back up again. Putting the mask on first allows me to just close the book and drift off. However, if you are trying...

Re: Profile editing

It took me a while to find it, probably because it was right in front of me. At the top of the screen, there is the medium blue box with cpaptalk.com. Then the search bar below. Below that is is a light blue box with User Control Panel (0 new messages). Click on the User Control Panel and there ya g...

Re: Hello -- first night using CPAP

Keep on using it! It is very rough at first but believe it or not, the day will come when it is no big deal. You may not see dramatic results at first, I didn't, I felt better very gradually. The true test for me came about 3 months into my therapy when I decided it wasn't doing any good and decided...

Using Essential Oils (EOs) with CPAP

Hi All, I have been using Essential Oils for a couple of years but never thought of using it with my CPAP. This site was recommended in the hose management posts, the CapPlus posts and a couple of others. When checking it out, I noticed they had a EO setup. Their idea is to use comforting scents to ...

S9 with Hybrid mask - what mask setting to use?

My clinician had the mask setting on my S9 set for "Pillows". I changed it to "Full Face" since that is what the Hybrid mask is (and of course I always figure I know better than the "experts" ). Is that the setting I should use?

Thanks,
Cynthia

Re: Hose management

Back in the day I had a cup hook screwed into my bed headboard above my head. I hung a velcro loop from it and had the hose hanging from the velcro loop. Kept the weight of the hose from dragging my mask off.

Re: Does anyone have annual sleep studies?

If your study is recent enough, call the prescribing doctor or the sleep clinic and ask for a copy. Then put it in a safe <GRIN>. And write down the combination. I don't have the entire study, just the summary page(s) that showed my AHI and diagnosis (severe sleep apnea).

Re: Does anyone have annual sleep studies?

I was diagnosed in 1996. When I changed doctors in @2003, the new doctor ordered another sleep study. So I went. After 7+ years of using a CPAP every night, my brain would not let my body fall asleep without a CPAP mask on. The technician at the sleep study refused to let me put on a mask since the ...

Re: Nose cushions are for low pressures

I have a fairly high top pressure (15). For me, the most important thing about how the mask fits (or doesn't fit) and how badly it leaks are the strap arrangements. I have a head like a bowling ball and very fine hair. Been through plenty of masks (nasal pillows, full face, nasal cup, etc) and becau...

Re: Highest pressure ever

My initial AHI was 84. My high pressure has been right around 15. Never found a full face mask that worked, the pressure kept pushing it away from my face. Same with nasal pillows alone. Started using a Hybrid a few weeks ago and love it, it has the nasal pillows and the mouth part and a chin rest t...

Re: Software and Settings

I also have both types of apneas. I could never find a full face mask that fit without leaking (my head is literally shaped like a bowling ball). I have found that the Hybrid works great for me. It has the nasal pillows and the mouth cover. Plus a little chin cup that helps keep my mouth closed. Cyn...

Re: Poll: How Prepared Are You Regarding A Cpap Backup Plan

I have been a CPAP user since 1996. CPAP machines: 1996 - First machine - Respironics silo - had to be set to a single pressure. 2005 - Upgraded to a Remstar C-Flex plus with heated humidifier, kept the old Respironics as backup. 2010 - Upgraded to S9 Autoset - will keep Remstar as backup and ditch ...
