Re: Why do some folks take to cpap so quickly and others do not?
This topic may well be one that is as individual as the person making the reply. I'll list the things that helped me. 1. Knowledge. From knowing in my own mind that I had a problem, thanks to a recording my wife (fiance at the time) made of me not breathing for a LOOOOOOOONG time, to knowing that I ...

Re: Please tell me it's going to be OK!
Hello my hosehead friends! I just wanted to drop in and let you all know how my story turned out. I took to cpap like a fish to water. I really wish it was so easy for everyone and will keep a part of my prayers dedicated to anyone having problems with it. The wedding went off without any problems a...

Re: Excited yet Nervous Newbie
Hi Geoff, I wear the quattro and got haircut yesterday that left me with having to refit my headgear...arrggghhhh. I had already forgotten how to do it after my initial experience a couple or three weeks ago. With the air off, adjust the straps till the mask is just flush with your face. Make sure t...

Re: Not making friends with cpap
When I read your post I wondered if perhaps you had just been so unlucky as to catch a cold at the same time you started therapy. I have the same machine and humidifier and found myself wondering if the humidifier was even working cause it was using so little water. I originally set it to 1 and felt...

Re: RespironicsRemStarPro vs. ResMed S9 AutoSet
Phillips Respironics Remstar PRO is a cpap and is set at one pressure example 13cmH2O Phillips Respironics Remstar AUTO can be set as you suggest both use the System One humidifier. The shorthand around here seems to be PR1 pro or PR1 auto. I have the auto and am very happy with it. I was prescribed...

Re: Feel horrible on CPAP
Hey Dave, I've seen a lot of posts from folks who said they felt worse the first few nights, occasionaly weeks when starting. I didn't experience that but I did have trouble waking up after 3, 4, 5 hours and having trouble getting back to sleep. The first few times I thought it was time to get up an...

Re: Tonight 1ST Night?
I'm happy you feel your first night went well! You've got a place to build from now. I have the same machine and think it's excellent. You can get the respironics encoreviewer software and look at each nights sleep to see what's working and what's not. Like those mask leaks, you can see if they are ...

Re: Tonight 1ST Night?
Try to associate very positive feelings from the start. Spend some time getting familiar with the mask a few times before bedtime comes around. Think of your equipment as a new friend, not a thing to be dreaded. You're gonna do fine!

Re: Noise from breathing
What kind is it? I have a respironics PR1 Auto and some nights I hear my breath if I think about it. I've heard some use white noise generators. I would think just playing a little soft sleepy music or maybe one of those "wave" subliminal relax cds might give you something else to think of besides t...

Re: cpap newbie needs encouragement
Hi CinnyAnn!!!! YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!! There is a lot of adjustment to go through when you start CPAP. Take it one day, one hour, one minute at a time. For me the biggest shock was the intial introduction to it at my sleep study. Once that was over and I made up my mind that it was something I was go...

Re: Getting used to CPAP
Hi Beeziz, I'm pretty new at this stuff myself and can understand how awkward it all feels! Your girlfriend did you a big favor by getting you to get checked. Just think of the number of breaths you are going to have because of her. I'm getting about 4000 extra breaths a week because of my fiance ge...

Re: Sleep Quality - Is this Normal?
Hi lipappy, I'm just about two weeks in and experience the same thing. The first few nights I would wake up after a few hours and think it should be morning already. I had about three nights that I would be up for about an hour before feeling sleepy again, put the mask back on and finish the night. ...

Re: Survey: how much do we want new treatment options?
Hey Amir, WELCOME! I wish you all the best in hunting for a better alternative to xPAP to treat sleep apnea. In the meantime if your doctor prescribes xPAP for you I hope you'll consider pushing past your intimidation and try using it. Whe I came to this board just a little over 3 weeks ago I was sc...
