Re: RF treatment for turbinate reduction
Hi folks, thanks for replying. You two are describing surgical turbinate reduction. Radiofrequency ablation is done during an office visit, and no tissue or bone is removed. The tissue is killed off with radio waves. Though, Andy, it sounds like the did RF while surgical doing everything else, which...

RF treatment for turbinate reduction
Hello CPAPtalk folks, I've read several posts about surgical reduction of the turbinates. Have any of you opted for RF (radiofrequency) ablation? It's done in office, and you go home afterwards. My understanding is that the downside is that it doesn't do any good if your problem is severe, and due t...

Re: Question for those who had Inferior Turbinate Reduction surg
If you're having turbinate reduction, your turbinates are too big even when not swollen, so the doc won't have any trouble seeing them. Also, they're putting magnifying/TV lenses up there. I agree with Rooster that healthy tissue is better to operate on. They actually use Afrin before surgery to red...

Re: Sleep study and CPAP coercion
Hi Sarling, There's an easy way to see if they were just trying to sell you a machine -- that results of the sleep study with and without the CPAP. My results were dramatically different. There's also a difference between snoring and apnea though they overlap quite a bit. The appliance might stop yo...

Re: Inflammatory cytokines and EDS
Anti-inflammatory diets usually involve getting rid of wheat, corn, dairy, soy, and potatoes, at least initially. The more insulin your body produces, the more the inflammatory pathway is activated. This is true even if blood tests show no allergic reactions to these foods. Most doctors and naturopa...

Re: IntelliPAP AutoAdjust, or ResMed S9 AutoSet?
I like my IntelliPAP a lot, but then I have a pretty low, constant pressure (7.0) and people who need higher or variable pressure might not like it as much. It's small and quiet and the smartcodes are a pretty cool idea -- no card or cables required.

Carbonman, thanks for the book recommendation. I'm going to get it from my library today.
Old Lincoln, Sonata is one I haven't tried before. Does it work the same way as Ambien?

Insomnia
Hi Folks, For those of you who have insomnia (I know many apneans actually have no problem falling asleep!), what's your favorite cure? My problem is that I'm TIRED, but my brain just won't shut all the way off when it should. I have tried: Ambion -- never again! I had the weird half-brain off, half...

Re: Taping Mouth?
Wow, thanks to all of you, including those who voiced your disagreements with each other. I don't have any asphyxiation fears from the tape. Also, I'd presume that any medical tape would be free of lead. However, I am allergic to many types of tape -- when I had surgery the doctor remarked that my s...

That data on the card is conflicting with the new machine. When you see the error, hold down the down arrow button for 10 seconds, until the error message goes away. In doing so, you erase the card and start over.

Taping Mouth?
Ok, I keep reading here about people who tape their mouths. At first I thought it had to be a rare or odd thing, or maybe even a joke, but no, lots of you talk about it! So, questions: What kind of tape? Like bandage tape? And why tape instead of a full face mask or chin strap? And how do you do it?...

Re: how long deciding cpap was your friend and not your enemy?
When I realized it could make me more alert in the mornings, and that alone would change my entire life, I wanted to be friends with CPAP.
It's been a rocky beginning, though.

Re: What does your insurance allow/pay for CPAP and gear?
So it looks like I saved $89.55 by going in network, but insurance paid out an extra $2191.55 for the exact same stuff. Maybe this is why health insurance is so expensive. They seem to have no clue of the real fair market value for what they pay claims on. Actually, what happens is that the DME cha...
