Re: Heated tube? Devilbiss? Worth it?
My understanding is even with a heated humidifier, without a heated tube, you're getting cool air. Some people don't mind, but I personally couldn't sleep that way. It's not the difference between the room temperature and you. It's the difference between the air and your body temperature. In nonCPAP...

Re: Nasal mask for narrow bridge
I know you're a guy, but you might try some of the nasal mask and pillows for females because many (but not all) female noses are narrower than male noses. A lot of the stuff for females is pure marketing crap, but some of the CPAP stuff is not. Back in 2010 when Swift FX for her was one of the few ...

Think since you are a doc you would want the study. You probably know someone in the field too. Just sayin'. The good news with the study-you know exactly what you have and how good or bad it is before you start with any equipment. Many folks here self treat. I do not But I look forward to other pe...

Re: Cannot belive
My first sleep doc didn't give me a timeline, but she did say a lot of people give up too easily given the stakes involved. And she gave me a medical paper entitled "Does sleep apnea cause death?" She also said that people often try several different masks because finding the right mask is like find...

A lot of insurance will also consider your score on the Epworth Sleepiness Scale and other medical issues. If you have mild sleep apnea, but are falling asleep while driving, then you need to get treated.

Re: About how long to adjust to sleeping with CPAP?
For me, I needed to problem solve what was bothering me and work on each issue one by one. As another poster wrote, fear of not being able to breathe was one. The mask feeling weird was another so at first I wore it awake while watching tv. The ramp feature also helped me. I also went through a coup...

Dreamstation vs S9? Bluetooth/cellular modem upload?
Hi, I'm back after a long absence. I just got a new CPAP machine on rental and mask after years. My old sleep doc retired and it took me a while to find a new sleep doctor. Is Sleepyhead using an SD card still the best option? My Dreamstation has a cellular modem and bluetooth so I was hoping there ...

Re: Kiddo saying can't breathe w/pillows...humidifier adjustmt?
I have allergies. I found the 'can''t breathe' feeling was because the humidity and heat weren't high enough for me. It seemed counterintuitive to me, but that's what my sleep doc suggested. I set it to 79 degrees and 4.0 humidity. The air feels slightly warm and moist and that's soothing to me I al...

I had Dr. Gominack as my neurologist years ago when she was in the bay area. She was one of the best I've had. She was willing to listen and do research. A lot of neurologists aren't. I don't find "I don't have X association and yet I have Y condition" to be a compelling argument that there's no lin...

Re: POLL: A Snapshot of the Health Problems of Forum Members
I have dystonia (had it since birth) that may also cause sleep disturbances. I also have chronic fatigue which is probably caused by several other factors including mild hypothyroidism, low iron stores and mild hormone imbalances. Treating these with diet, drugs and supplements was helping, but I wa...

Re: Need a pep talk (long-ish, sorry)
I have allergies and using nasal pillows with a partially blocked nose, I felt like everything had to be seated perfectly or I couldn't breathe through the mask. I saw an allergist who put me on Astepro as well as the Nasonex and Zyrtec I was already taking. I also had to turn up the humidity, becau...

Re: s9 elite question
At least on my machine -- an S9 Auto, I have to turn Sleep Quality On and then I have to still be in Clinician Mode to see the Sleep Report which lists my AHI and Leak Rate. In patient mode, I just see my AHI and a smiley face or a frowney face.

Re: question for parents
My kids are 8 and 5 and were accepting and curious. Before I got the machine, I showed them a youtube video of a man sleeping with a CPAP mask that was very similar to the one I was getting. I also turned up the volume, so they could hear the noise of the machine. I said I needed the machine to help...

Re: Exhale Pressure Relief (EPR) - Could you do without?
I LOVE EPR. Without EPR, at the higher pressures (12), I feel like the mask is pushing into my face and suffocating me. I could probably learn to tolerate the feeling since it's not real, but I'm glad I don't have to.

Re: Why do some folks take to cpap so quickly and others do not?
I'm 3 months into it and definitely had my share of problems which I'm still working through. The first night on CPAP I felt great even though I was having a lot of leaks. I don't think it's dogged discipline, but being persistent in finding something that works for you. I went through many masks to...
