UGH! Forgot what a night without CPAP was like
Boy, if I ever needed a reality check that my CPAP therapy is worth the trouble it sometimes seems like, I got one last night. One of the pins on the part of the power supply that plugs into the back of my machine broke off yesterday, and although my husband tried to jerry-rig it to work for me, it ...

Re: Power went out - chuckling about it now
I don't see how a VPAP losing power is going to kill you. Every mask that I am familiar with has a relief valve that opens up and lets you breathe if the machine stops producing pressure. Most people would likely wake up pretty quickly after losing pressure and take off the mask. It's funny this to...

Re: Cleaning Face mask
I found that pink stuff growing in my humidifier too, stacia! A couple of weeks ago we went to Florida on a vacation and all I had with me was bottled (not distilled) water. On the fourth morning, I found this slimy pink stuff that we figured was mold on the bottom of my humidifier tub. My husband p...

Re: Cleaning Face mask
Six days a week, my husband and I each use a Citrus II CPAP wipe to wipe our pillows inside and out, then use the other side of the wipe to give the rest of the mask a quick cleaning. On either Saturday or Sunday each week, we wash the pillows, mask parts, tube, strap covers, etc. in warm water with...

Re: I thought I was sleeping okay
I've been on CPAP for about four months. A few weeks ago, I tried switching from my Tempur-Pedic style foam pillow, which is a little high, to a cushier, fluffier pillow. Never had a single leak with the foam pillow, but as soon as I tried sleeping on that cushy pillow, I had leaks. I switched back ...

I'm a senior marketing writer for a company that produces tax and accounting software, and I'm also the managing editor of the magazine we send out to our users. Before that, I was a marketing communications specialist in the credit union industry for several years. Oh, and once 5:00 comes, I'm an a...

Re: Need a pep talk (long-ish, sorry)
Thanks for the encouraging words, everyone. I'm so glad to see I'm not the only one who has experienced this. I'm sure I'm not having any problems with mouth leak; I sleep with my mouth closed and never have a dry mouth or anything like that. I've even had my husband watch me while I'm sleeping to b...

Need a pep talk (long-ish, sorry)
I'm at a little over three months on CPAP. Once I changed from a nasal mask to nasal pillows, I took to CPAP like the proverbial duck to the proverbial water. The first three months were great, and I'm not doing badly (AHI is usually between 1 and 4 with no leaks, except for one night when I tried o...

Re: Pillows and leaks
Thanks for all the information, everyone. I really appreciate it. I just checked my readout, and it's liters per minute, not per second. And I ended up ordering new nasal pillows, DreamOn . Thanks for the heads-up. My nasal pillows are getting soft and mushy, so it certainly can't hurt. As I said, I...

Re: Got my new Swift FX today
My husband and I both have the Swift FX and we love them. It's very light and as comfortable as a mask on your face can be. At the beginning, I was freaked about the idea of things stopping up my nose, but after three nights with a nasal mask (which I absolutely hated), I decided to ignore my fears ...

Pillows and leaks
I've been using my CPAP for a little over three months. Although my AHI has moved around a bit (first few weeks ranged between 0 and 3, and the last few weeks it’s been racking up a lot of 4- and 5-pluses, which will be another post down the line ), I haven’t had a single leak till last night, when ...

Re: How many here do not use a humidifier
After reading this thread yesterday, a light went on in my brain, and I tried an experiment last night. I've been using my CPAP for almost two months, and I've found that I don't like the humidity high. So I've been using my machine with the humidity set at 1.5, which seemed comfortable enough in th...

Re: New hosehead
Hi, Brian! My husband and I just started our CPAP therapy this past Friday so I don't have a lot of experience, but I can at least comment on the ResMed S9 machine with the h5i, which is what we have. Of course, keep in mind we don't have anything else to compare it to, but we love the machines. We ...

Re: Nose ridge from mask
Just as an update, I spent my first night with the nasal pillow mask last night, and what a difference! I think the problem at the sleep study was that the tech gave me pillows to try out that were too large--a S, when I needed an XS--and they folded in on themselves and blocked my air and my nose. ...

Re: Nose ridge from mask
The respiratory therapist called me to check on how things were going about an hour ago, so I'm going in Wednesday for a mask refitting and I'm going to try the nasal pillows, janknitz . The pillows freaked me out a little when I tried them during the sleep study which is why they gave me a nasal ma...
