Re: Alcohol and CPAP
I personally like to have a few (and occasionally more than a few) drinks as the occasion permits. I find looking at my numbers that I do tend to have more apnea events it's not significant. Also, I actually tend to be less hung-over. It's either all in my head, or there's some science to it, but th...

Re: How often do you replace your hose?
My 6 month old slimline hose for the Resmed S9 developed a small hole on Monday right where the hose meets the connector. A couple of wraps of duct tape and then back to bed. I was a bit surprised as I don't believe I put any stress on that part - but I was probably asleep at the time I suppose I'll...

Increased pressure - chest pain?
I've been using my Resmed S9 since about April. Originally they had me on a pressure of 8cm which still gave me scary-high (50+) AHI numbers. After a second study they had me set the machine to 11cm which dropped my AHI to reliably be below 20. Since I can never follow instructions, after a month or...

Re: Going in to hospital for cardiac catheterization - Update
Everything went smoothly and the people at St. Mary's in Kitchener, Ontario were quite professional, pleasant and very competent. I had 3 minor blockages - 2 @30% and 1 @50% which they didn't feel needed anything done with. I was actually surprised chatting with others in the recovery room to find t...

I've thought about replacing the distilled water with rum . It's mostly sterile.
Probably a bad idea though.

Yep - I made sure to tell her. She seemed quite curious about if it helped with some of my symptoms.djr1215 wrote:Does your cardiologist (or whomever will be doing the heart cath) know you have sleep apnea? You'll be on your back, so that could be an issue he needs to be aware of.

Thank you for the good wishes.
There's a certain amount of being bloody terrified that's involved but hopefully it will all work out OK.

Re: Going in to hospital for cardiac catheterization
Good thought - I keep the prescription in the CPAP travel bag so there's no problem with that.
My wife is staying with me for the day so she can drive me home so I'll just toss it into the trunk and if I need it it's there.
Thanks for the input.

Going in to hospital for cardiac catheterization
In a couple of weeks I'm going in to the hospital so that they can finally get some sort of idea as to what's wrong with me. It's "supposed" to be an in and out thing, with me arriving first thing in the morning and getting released late in the afternoon - IF - nothing goes wrong and if they don't a...

I agree with Blackspinner - dignity is something that you have, not something you wear.

Re: CPAP causing cough in the morning?M
You might also want to bump up your humidity. I know that I did and I'm pretty good about keeping the machine clean. When my pressure prescription increased I had to bump it up again to get rid of the cough. My own theory is that since the air is being forced into you that your body doesn't get an a...

Re: Calling all Ontario Users
From my own experience when I was given my prescription, the doctor asked where I lived and then gave me the name of the DME closest to my home. I called them and got an appt the same day and came home with an S9 that afternoon. That's the "good" part. I hadn't studied up before I went so I lucked o...

Re: Trouble Breathing in the Morning
Count me in as well. I've just been putting it down to my breathing getting "lazy" overnight since the machine does it for me.
I do find that I feel like I need to "work" to take a deep breath when I get up - which wasn't the case back in those dark - pre CPAP days.
