Mask removal during sleep

I use a chin strap to help me not mouth breathe. It does not however keep me from pulling my mask off. I have however come to a great resolution for the problem. Probably not a new idea but one I haven't seen here recently. I put my mask, and chin strap on and then put a baseball cap on my head. I h...

Re: why would a doctor not want to prescribe an auto cpap?

I don't have any idea why a doctor would rather use a CPAP. It seems to me that the invention of the APAP will at some point make the CPAP obsolete. I think it amy be a lack of comfort on the doctor's part that results in the reluctance to prescribe the APAP. Having had the opportunity to use both a...

Re: Inquiring Mind Wants to Know 1 (ontopic semirant)

I would have to agree for the most part about custom fit masks. I spent the better part of an hour today, and am grateful my sleep technologist had the time, looking at full face masks. I have a short face so finding one that is short enough is a job. She was able to provide me with options and toge...

Re: Preparing to cpap

Welcome to the forum. I am relatively new to the site but not to CPAP. I am so grateful for a good night of sleep now, and I am stringing more days together of good sleep than I can remember, at least in my adult life. I think one of the best things about restful sleep is the attitude change. Not on...

Re: When CPAP is not an option--suggestions?

I saw in a post a few weeks ago a reference to the website http://www.secondwindcpap.com and they sell discounted and new C-PAP machines. I checked the site today and they seem to offer lots of different types of machines. This might also be an option for affordable equipment. Best of luck.

Re: Hey what about full face masks?

Thanks for the help thus far. I looked at the Innomed Hybrid and it seems like it could be the best of both worlds. The other advantage is that there is not headgear all over my face. I am way opposed to all the headgear up over my nose and on my forehead and this looks much like my OPUS with the ad...

Hey what about full face masks?

Hi, I am not new to C-PAP therapy just returning after a 7 year lapse in treatment. There have been many changes--definitely for the better. I am using a Opus 360 mask at this time which I have been really successful with. I do however have a bronchitis and the accompanying head cold. I have been ve...

Re: Mask or pillows

I have used both a mask and pillows. I am more successful with pillows. I am however a mouth breather. I use a Breathewear Halo chin strap, which is very comfortable and lightweight. I would suggest trying some type of chin strap before abandoning the pillows altogether. The website for the chin str...

Re: Husband had sleep study and DOESN'T have OSA

My understanding of the AHI index it that anything under 5 incidents an hour is considered normal--like the average person might experience. That doesn't make it any more pleasant but that seems to be the number that the 'specialists' have decided on. I guess it is a mixed bag, he doesn't have it ba...

Re: Getting a newer, better machine

I know that my doctor wrote a prescription for a C-PAP and the sleep specialist that I work with at the DME sleep place I go to decided which machine would best suit me. It is one that hasn't been out too long. It is a RemStar Auto A-Flex and has a System One humidifier attached to it. If it is poss...

Re: My mother is bamboozled by her "very nice" DME.

I am so sorry that some many folks have been neglected or uninformed by their providers. When I was origninally diagnosed in 1990 they gave me a machine at the sleep lab and sent me home to figure out for myself how to make it work. Needless to say I was really unsuccessful. I hated every night and ...

Re: Newbie: Advice needed on choosing first nasel mask

I originally was refusing to have another sleep study as when I last used a machine the mask was the issue. In 10 years there have been great innovations. If you are worried about straps and hardware(mask) all over your face I would suggest looking at the OPUS 360. It has minimal headgear, is very l...

Re: BIPAP

I am using a C-PAP at this time and it seems to me that you are having a hard time with the mask issue. Have you looked at a pillow mask like the OPUS 360. I couldn't use one that had headgear all over my face, I tried many years ago when I used a Bi-PAP and was unsuccessful. I am currently using a ...

Re: Medicare Advantage and Apria Problem

I have had some experience with Apria and their equipment. Generally once your contract is up they want you to pay maintainence for the equipment. If that is what they are really saying you might ask what that charge covers. I pay maintainence on a couple of DME devices through them, but I got my C-...

Re: The "Undead" or proper rehab of a zombie!

Thanks. I would have agree with all you shared. I am 5 days into my reconnection with a PAP machine. I realized the first morning that I was yawning and stretching--I haven't really done either upon waking in any recent memory, or many years and man does it feel good. It is nice to make it through t...
