Re: insurance / medical supplier question
If the DME has your RX on file, they may not require a new prescription. A lot of DME supplies will honor an RX for the life of the RX (if you doctor wrote it for 99 months it is considered lifetime). BUT you must file the original RX within one year of the data it was written. And this usually only...

Re: prescriptions
For DME - the RX status doesn't really have anything to do with coverage (normally anyway). Example would be mobility aids like crutches and canes etc. You can buy them OTC, but most companies will pay for them as DME. Having said that most insurance companies require you to have a doctor's prescrip...

Re: Is this out of line?
I got my bill yesterday. This is after paying $300 up front because I had not meet my $500 deductible. Total Charges: $4,119.30 Payments Adjustments: $4,110.35 Balance Due: $8.95 I can't believe my insurance paid that much. I doubt if your insurance paid that much. Most providers wil use the term '...

Re: Snoozing vs. getting up early: different effects?
Same here - in fact I specifically put my alarm clock across the room so I cannot hit the snooze - my problem is compounded with the fact that once I wake up - I cannot get back to sleep if I've add 3 or 4 hours. I use generic ambien to actually get to sleep - but if I wake up for some reason with a...

Re: Need some advice on working with a DME
Call your insurance company FIRST. Here are the questions you want to ask: Sometimes it is better to order online and pay out of pocket (it is the RARE insurance company that will reimburse you for an online purchase) or you may want to do it if you can afford to just to avoid the hassle. BUT, if y...

Re: Questions about mask purchase as Out of Network Ins.
At the risk of putting a bulls-eye on my back - I will admit that I actually work for one of the evil empires (Insurance companies) and have a couple of thoughts: Sometimes instead of EOC you will hear the phrase SPD. This stands for Summary Plan Description. Both are basically your benefit booklets...

Re: OT: Inexpensive Vitamin D Testing
Snuginarug, every time I get tested I'm low...always between 13 and 16. I take the three months of prescription D and then don't go back and test again (dumb!). This time I'm going to stick with it, take OTC D, test every couple of months or so, and keep taking it until it's up where it should be. ...

Re: OT: Inexpensive Vitamin D Testing
I wonder, given HIPAA is in effect now (it wasn't the last time Quest and I butted heads quite a few years ago now), whether they would have to provide the results to me if I requested them??? IF I thought I could win that battle I would be tested to have one more (and definitely last) blood draw d...

Re: Charges to obtain my own medical records
I wonder if they would be allowed to email you a copy? I asked my current sleep doctor if they could do that. The answer was, no, HIPAA rules prevent it. I don't know if HIPAA does or not, but that was the story. Actually HIPAA doesn't prevent them from sending it via email - it is considered PHI s...

Re: OT: seen any good movies lately?
They actually make good movies anymore? That was evil to say wasn't it? Last movie I saw at the movie theater was HP and the Prisoner of Askaban (June 2004). I was so unhappy I haven't paid to see any of the other HP movies at the theater (although I did buy the DVD for #4 and #5). I have yet to act...

Re: Question for S9 owners
Actually what the insurance companies usually do is set the *fee schedule* lower for the Code E0601 to include only the machine itself. Yes i work at a DME and that is how it works, the insurance requires the DME to bill in parts to make it easier for them to process replacement parts. It does come ...

All 4 of my cats sleep with me - aside from fighting over who gets the pillow that gets hit by the air from the vent on my mask, they do not bother it. I have woke up with 3 of the 4 on the same pillow Although they shed like crazy - I haven't had filter issues.

Re: Is my DME fibbing?
I think I will comment and then duck Your DME may be telling the truth. Both items share the same HCPC code (E0601), but they are different devices. Some insurance carriers have different medical policies for CPAP versus APAP, so they are telling the truth - if your insurance carrier has separate me...

None really apply
But
http://www.shopsleepsolutions.com/produ ... n_E_711624 sort of nails it on the head.
Although I just put one pillow under my arm, and 2 on top of it - I may actually give in and try this one.

Re: Vitamin D Deficiency and Respiratory Infections
I use a 50,000 supplement once a week - and I can only get my D3 level up to 40 Doctors are still fighting over what is an optimum level. Some say 30-80, but others want 80-100. I will hopefully be getting retested later this month to see if I should increase to 2X week. FYI - if your doctor gives y...
