I had the same nightime episodes and went to the ER.
Get a sleep study done. I have been using a CPAP machine over a year now and I have a new life.

I have done the same thing a few times over the last year. I adjusted the straps on the mask for better comfort. I also discovered that sometimes my nasal passages were not very clear. On those occasions I use a nasal spray before going to bed. That helps a lot.
