I just heard my aunt, who is near 80, was diagnosed a month ago and loves her CPAP.

Same here, after beginning CPAP therapy I seem to need less sleep - although I have been using the CPAP for ahem years.

Re: 0 hours S9 Auto Set on Craigs list.

Ever since we bought an emergency replacement CPAP from Craigslist, my hubby checks the local Craigslist for CPAP supplies and pricing. He says the only xPAPs he sees with 0 hours are S9s, and wonders what the story is on that. I'm curious to know how so many people are getting this same machine the...

CPAP in general helped me, but the pillows have helped more.

It was the daily nosebleeds that convinced me.

Re: cpap noise without humidifier

You mentioned "blower hours". Is that the number of hours I have used it in the last 6 weeks and does that mean the breathing noise will continue to increase? Blower hours would be total number of hours used - a way to figure the age of the machine. At least in this context. So yes it is the number...

Re: Anyone use Patanase?

No, I don't use Patanase, but I do use Patanol/Pataday and love it. That's too bad if the nasal spray doesn't work as well as the eye drops. Allergy shots help me a lot. Mold, ragweed, tree pollen, dustmites and roaches. (Why is my allergist giving shots but yours won't?) OTC generic Zyrtec also hel...

Re: Boy have sleep therapy machines changed!

Well I'm trying to be encouraging because it works well for me. In my first sleep clinic visit, my SaO2 never went below 87%. Apneas: 2, hypopneas: 84, RDI given as 16.2 (respiratory disturbance index) which is per hour. This is mild apnea, but the CPAP really made a difference for me and my family....

Re: Allergies are sooooo bad, what to do

I use a simpler version of the neti pot, it helps so much that if I remembered to do it twice daily, every day, I could stop meds most of the year.
Not at this time of year, although the allergy shots help also.

Re: Allergies are sooooo bad, what to do

Here's what I can think of:
Have you had frost yet? Your problems might be seasonal.
Have you changed the filter on your CPAP?
Certainly if the mask is irritating, use a different one.

Re: the Didgeridoo works to relieve sleep Apnea

The vuvuzela ranks really low when ranking pleasant sounds, lower even than the didgeridoo.

But I'd try the didgeridoo for apnea, if it was affordable. Thanks for the PVC link.

Re: Boy have sleep therapy machines changed!

Sorry for all the background, but does all this really mean that I need to use a CPAP machine? Yes. CPAP/APAP therapy helps to lower blood pressure; keeps the blood levels of oxygen high; helps alleviate that early morning tired feeling, headache, and grouchiness; reduces AHI; reduces daytime drows...

Re: Pressure reading

My machine reads 30-10-10 on the display. When I go to sleep and turn on ramp it reads 4. It is supposed to fully ramp up to 30 in 25 minutes. When I get up in the morning and glance at the display it shows 10. Nowhere near 30??? Thoughts? I don't think any machine goes to a pressure above 20. 30-1...

Re: How do you determine the right CPAP machine.

I just want to know if there is a way to determine the right CPAP machine. The right one is one you can get and get started with treatment. Other than that, it really doesn't matter. There are certain bells and whistles that are nice, but not actually a requirement. The mask is where you take the t...

Re: OT: Vitamin D Testing

About 6 months ago I was given a prescription for Vitamin D. It was 50,000 units per dose, one dose per week for 8 weeks. I didn't finish. The first one gave me a burst of energy, but also gave me side effects. I didn't tolerate the 1000 unit dose very well either so I take 400 units daily. The foll...
