Is exhalation port in circuit necessary?
I apologize if this is a newbie question that has already covered, but I did a search for it and couldn't find anything helpful. I was reading the Clinical Manual for my machine and it said to, "Verify that an exhalation port is present to exhaust CO2 from the circuit." I also recall seeing a warnin...

CPAP Air Smell; FFM Weight; APAP & Holding Breath
Hi gang, Today I got my APAP, the Remstar Auto with C-Flex, and I have some questions. First, the air that it pushes has a sort of plastic/rubbery smell. Is there anything I can add to the humidifier water to make it smell better? I know I could try all sorts of things that aren't recommended, but I...

Should I insist on the Mirage Ultra FFM?
Hi all, I just spoke with the RT at my DME and he said they may not be bringing the Mirage Ultra that I requested, as they are trying to stay away from Resmed products due to the higher expense. I told him that I wanted the Mirage Ultra because I had read about the new features it has and want it be...

What should I ask when I get my CPAP delivered?
Hello everyone, I first want to thank everyone who has welcomed me here. Thanks to all the informed and helpful responses I received to my previous posts, I made what I feel is a good decision about the machine I'm getting. It is supposed to be delivered on Tuesday afternoon. I'm getting a Remstar A...

Is a manometer necessary for accurate pressure setting?
I was told in the past that the CPAP machine should not only be set at Xcm, but that value should also be verified by a manometer? Is this still recommended or do current machines have an accuracy that does not necessitate this? If it is still necessary, is it also then necessary to check with whate...

Is BiPAP not for mouth breathers?
So, to sum some of this up... C-Flex, while being comfortable for some/most/many, will not work for everyone, with APAP or CPAP. However, since I am already going to get the Remstar Auto with C-Flex, I should try the first prescribed setting (5-13cm) with each level of C-Flex, and without, to see wh...

Pulse oximetry for determining treatment efficacy
Yeah, back in 1998 I was diagnosed with OSA and subsequently had 2 other sleep studies over the next several years. Then, a couple of years ago, I just wanted to make sure I was still having OSA and I didn't have a sleeping partner, so I asked my sleep doc for a PO to have at home over a 3 day perio...

Pulse oximetry for determining treatment efficacy
Bill, Yes, that did answer my question. THANK YOU!!! ___________________________________________________________________ Den, That clarified Bill's reply. YES, I was going to "rent" one from the DME. I'll TRY to get it at no charge, but in this market, (Los Angeles), things might be different than w...

[quote="roztom"]I often question the veracity of the snore index on the data for the Remstar Auto. My partner doesn't report any snores, she used too but the data says I'm still snoring. The APAP responds to snores and that is the primary trigger for increasing pressure. Whether it is an audible sno...

Re: BiPap S/T
[quote="Bella"]I find that the Autotrak feature on these machines adjusts to my natural breathing rate very easily. Too easily perhaps - after years of shallow breathing, and central apneas, I found the precision of the timed IPAPs to be so rhythmic, that was sleep inducing in itself! I miss that no...

What I meant was, thanks for the reply, but I would appreciate it if someone could actually answer my question.
Thanks anyway.

Software v. Pulse Oximetry for Analysis of xPAP
I don't really have a problem with a wire going from my finger all night. If I did, I certainly don't think I could even conceive of tolerating xPAP! Should I get a PO from the DME for the first month to make sure my pressures are achieving the proper therapeutic level? Thanks for an informative rep...

Mouth breathing and BiLevel PAP
DSM, Thank you for the reply. From your response, I remembered that the BiLevel Respironics machines turned around from I to E on me too quickly also, so it was forcing me to breathe faster than I normally would and I could not tolerate it. Since you had the same problem, I am wondering if the machi...

Is absence of snoring a good indicator of xPAP efficacy?
One of the main reasons that I am pursuing CPAP for a third time, after 2 dismal failres, is because my snoring is preventing me from sleeping with my sleep partner. I am hoping that, this time by doing the proper research before hand, and having the right equipment (the C-Flex is going to be very h...
