Ranman, I think you've received some good answers to your question--no consensus, to be sure--but a decent cross-section of experiences. I, for one, struggled with the UMFF and a pressure of 16. To be fair, I have a large size, and it may be too large. When I first tried the Quattro, the large was h...

Thanks, Rested Gal, for posting that synopsis. I'm sure it was a lot easier to read than witnessing the event live!

Here's another bump (I hope) for a topic I find very interesting, even if it is about ResMed. I've been struggling only a little with the F&P 431, but sure wouldn't mind a more comfortable and less leaky mask. I really appreciate the info ddphelp passed along about the UMFF. I'll try that technique ...

I have this problem and it's the only reason I use "Ramp." I start at one-half pressure (8 cm) and have it take 20 minutes to bring the pressure up to a rip-roaring 16. The gradual pressure increase seems to help keep my ears from plugging.

I believe those are the total number of hours the machine has been in use. For instance, I've had my machine around 14.5 months and my numbers read 3229.4. That's an average of a little over 7 hours a night, which is about how much I usually have it on.

I'm a 431 user and hope I can help. First of all, make sure the insert is firmly seated in the mask. If not, it may leak between the two. Second, you might try the next size smaller insert. In my experience, leaking under the chin means the insert is too large. Third, hang in there! It takes a while...

The UMFF was my first full face mask, too. I struggled with it for about 6 months, trying both medium and large sizes, before giving the F&P 431 a try. The 431 is much easier for me, and I love having all 3 sizes available for when you wonder if you've really got it right. It also is easier for me t...

If you're interested in more full face mask options, you might give the new Fisher & Paykel 432 a try. It's been getting rave reviews, and I think I'll be trying it next.

In my experience, the F&P 431 has far fewer problems than the UMFF.

While I certainly understand what you mean about F&P's "forehead spike," I hope they don't pattern any improvements after ResMed's "airplane wing" that sits atop the UMFF. The ResMed design (Ready for landing, Major Tom) makes it too difficult for me to sleep on my side, which is something I need to...

Rather than merely observing free market forces in action, I suggest we become active participants, by actively not buying ResMed products. It's perhaps the only effective way we have of providing them with feedback on their their new policy. My previous UMFF was good, but I think I stepped up when ...

Sorry if I got carried away with the "stupid" remark, but my ideal design may be the way birdshell describes the ResMed approach. It just doesn't make sense to me to have an underwater joint. If you give water a chance to leak, eventually it will. And if that means gluing a stainless plate to the bo...

Isn't Repironics the only manufacturer to design their reservoirs upside down, making sure the water can leak out? I know it's not politically correct to use the phrase "design flaw," but--my gosh--how stupid is that?

Somebody should probably bring up melatonin (maybe me). It's natural, OTC, cheap, and works like a champ for me. I take 3 mg timed release capsules I get from vitacost.com.

I moved to the 431 from the Ultra Mirage FF, because I was having trouble getting the Mirage to seal when I was on my side. The 431 seems just the opposite: leaks like a banshee when I'm on my back, but seals great when I mash it against the pillow on my side. I also need a smaller size than I thoug...

I have the same machine as you at a pressure of 16. When I first started, C-Flex seemed essential and I had it set at 3. After a while, I turned it down to 2. Lately, I've gone down to 1, also thinking about the S8, and find I'm having no problem. I had a similar experience with Ramp, starting at 4,...
