From what I understand, the oils from your skin can interfere with the seal on the mask or nasal tube. I use Johnson & Johnson "Head to Toe" baby wash. It is very mild and I can't detect any smell. I do not like the odor of the baby shampoo. So far I have had good results. Don

The only way I can get the Comfort Gel not to leak was to tighten the straps to the point of leaving pressure marks on my face. I find the Swift Nasal pillow much more comfortable. I am going to try the Hybrid as soon as I can get Medicare to pay for it. I hope you can find a comfortable "fit" soon ...

Hi, It is nice to see a spouse involved with her husbands treatment. I used a chin strap for a few weeks to "train" my throat to stay closed and minimize the air escaping from my lips. It was the first thing I pulled off in the middle of the night but at least I kept the mask on my face. Is it possi...

I bought a "didge" several years ago. My wife, a violinist, found it to as "musical" as bagpipes. Since I don't have a garage or basement and in the interest in saving our marriage, I found it makes a quite interesting wall decoration. BTW I play tuba and it did not make a difference with my sleep a...

Good Bye "clueless" Doctor

I took my Encore results to my GP and he thought they were "interesting" but said he had no idea of what they meant. He then told me he was retiring. I got a consult with a sleep specialist ordered and saw him in less than a week. Everything was positive at the appointment. My biggest issue was the ...

I never cared for the smell of baby shampoo also. I found something called "Head to Toe" baby wash which is also made by J&J. It doesn't seem to have any fragrance at all and is doing a good job on the mask and equipment.

I wish I afford to buy the Hybrid. Medicare allows for a new mask every 3 months (but not the complete set up with the head gear) The mask with head gear is only allowed every 6 months. Sorry if I wasn't clear. I got my info from cpapforseniors.com. ( I hate that name since everybody on Medicare isn...

I found the soreness went away after about a week or two. I did switch back to my Comfort Gel for a night or two and would use the Ayr Gel during the day. I found if I used too much of the gel with the Swift it would start to whistle when the pressure increased. I have had better luck not making the...

I will have to wait until Oct when Medicare will pay for a new mask and head gear. At $28 for the head gear I will try to get just the Hybrid mask and pay out of the pocket for the head gear. It seems so strange that they will allow for a new mask every 3 months but not the head gear.

I also did the "custom fit" procedure. It seemed to help leaks. I only use it when my nose gets a little sore from my Swift.

Caution - another reason for a dry humidifier tank

The other day I noticed I had used more water from my humidifier. I started thinking mouth breathing? large mask leaks? was the heater set too high? The problem turned out to be the design of the tank. When I cleaned the tank I did not have the plastic tank firmly attached to the metal plate. I leak...

Back in Sept of 2005 my psychiatrist thought I had sleep apnea. She urged me to see my medical doctor but it took 6 months for me to convince him that I needed a sleep study. I have been on the APAP for over a month but doubt if it will replace my medications. I am just happy to breathe better all n...

Did you ever think how your years of voice training as an opera singer may be interfering with what you are asking your tongue and throat to do with the CPAP? It might take some time for your body to learn that this is the time for sleep, not singing. I have been using a relaxation technique where y...
