Hey Bob. One issue you mentioned that no one else has addressed was your statement that you weren't able to get the pressure lowered when you woke up. There's a button called ramp on your Remstar Auto. If you press it the pressure will drop back to the starting level and automatically adjust again w...

I thought I'd add my two cents on the diet issue. I've had good success the past few months, and the secret to that success is frozen dinners. I know, it sounds loony, but here's the explanation. I'm single, and its very hard for me to cook just for myself. I buy single-serving frozen dinners of var...

Vader, I'm sorry about what happened to your brother. I finally got treatment after my mother heard me sleep one night and told me she didn't think I was going to wake up the next morning, so I can relate, at least a little. Anyway, I'm one of the lucky ones as far as cpap goes. The first night I us...

I was in the same boat as collegegirl. When I was a child, my tonsils were so large that they would totally close off my windpipe when I slept. The problem was discovered after I started school and began to fall asleep in class and the teachers couldn't wake me up. I had my tonsils removed when I wa...

I'm going to second the suggestion that you look into buying a machine privately and skip the hassle and expense of another sleep study. I would talk to your doctor and see if he or she would be willing to write you a prescrition based on your symptoms, but if not, by all means cut through all the r...

I understand you situation all too well. I also delayed treatment for far too long because I couldn't afford to pay my insurance deductible and my portion of the cost of the study, machine, and other expenses. After doing a lot of research, I decided to just buy a used machine, which was much less e...

I'm 34, male, 6'1", and the last time I weighed myself, which was a while ago, I weighed 330. I have a very large frame, and I imagine my fighting weight would be about 230, so I've got a c-note to lose. Due to my frame size, the weight hasn't been a problem until recently, but I'm sure it has great...

I also have to believe that there is a genetic predisposition to apnea. Almost every male I've known on my dad's side of the family suffered from snoring that registered on Richter scales, and I'm sure it was caused by apnea.

Why not. I'm a 34 year old SW BUM, big ugly mug. Brown hair, blue eyes, beard, glasses. I made the supreme mistake of going to law school, but got out of the practice while I still had my soul intact. I'm currently working for a legal publishing company. I'm also about to complete yet another degree...

Need advice on stopping mouth breathing problems

Because the huge difference cpap has made for me, I'm trying to get my dad started on it. I'm letting him use my spare machine (apap), and a Flexifit 407 mask. Dad sleeps with his mouth open, and he gets a lot of air leaking out of his mouth, which wakes him up. I'm working on getting a full face ma...

I haven't dealt with the dating issue since I started cpap a couple of months ago, but I have to think that a lady would rather deal with the hose and mask than my snoring, which registers on Richter scales in Japan. Anyway, based on my lousy luck at the game of love, I have to say that I'm better o...

In my opinion, your best bet will definitely be to buy a used machine rather attempting to deal with a DME. Although I have insurance, I decided to go that route because I didn't want to go through with the hassle and long wait it would take to set up a sleep study and then wait for the insurance to...

suggestion again

I'll make the same suggestion I made in another thread a second ago, portable jump starting unit. You can buy the unit for about the same price as a good battery charger, and charge it up by just plugging the included charger into a wall socket or a cigarette lighter plug in a vehicle. You can also ...

suggestion

Rather than using a deep cycle battery, I'd suggest buying a portable jump starter unit to power your cpap. You can get one for less than a good deep cycle battery, probably 40 or 50 dollars, and there should be no danger of any toxic gas leakage. They are very handy to keep in a vehicle for an emer...

yet another full face mask question

I've been having some alergy problems, and I'm looking in to getting a full face mask to use when I have a lot of nasal congestion. I have a beard, but I keep it trimmed pretty short. Will a full face mask keep a seal over facial hair? I haven't had any trouble with my nasal masks.
