benefits of wearing the mask for only some of the night?

Hi all: I have been getting closer to keeping my mask on the whole night. But I'm still not 100% there. My therapist actually suggested that it might be good motivation for me to keep trying if I were to be able to track down any studies and/or medical-journal research that showed that even a partia...

necessary to wear full-face mask to alleviate dry mouth?

I've been having decent results with my Comfort Lite 2 mask (still not able to sleep through the whole night, but getting there). I was not labeled a mouth breather by the lab that conducted my sleep (where I slept for six hours with the Comfort Lite 2). However, my DME said that if I consistently w...

can't seem to keep mask on whole night

Hello all: I am a 34-year-old male who recently got a sleep-apnea diagnosis. I've found a mask that I like to some degree: the Mirage Swift LT. It took some practice, but nowadays I usually don't have a problem falling asleep with the mask on. However, for one reason or another, I take it off in the...

water in the tubing = loud "percolating" noise

I'm relatively new to using my CPAP. I have yet to be able to wear the mask the whole night, although I have been able to fall asleep with it several nights in a row. I'm wondering first of all if anyone can kindly give me any words of wisdom on this matter. I'm still finding my preferred setting on...

travelling with CPAP machine

I am going to be flying with my CPAP on Wednesday. I was planning to take it in the case in which it came (which isn't particularly padded), and even though it is bulky, include it as part of my carry-on luggage. But it would really be more convenient if I could check the machine. Is it too delicate...

dangers of Waltussin, etc?

I'm pretty stuffed up and I normal take Waltussin in a situation like this. However, I haven't fully acclimated to using my new CPAP machine; and probably wasn't going to use it tonight. From my research, I gather that it poses a great danger, perhaps even a fatal one (as in the case of some rapper ...

Re: CPAP machine turns itself off?

The RT looked at my machine yesterday, said essentially that "if you say it's damaged, that's good enough; we'll replace it" and told me to call the sleep clinic to request an Rx. She also noted that the amount of air the machine was blowing at a "7" setting was noticeably less than a properly worki...

Re: CPAP machine turns itself off?

Looks like a respiratory tech will come out to my office tomorrow, evaluate the machine, and if the machine is "broken beyond repair," it looks as though I'll be able to get an Rx for a new machine before my trip. It's ironic, of course... I wouldn't have gotten so worked up about this if I weren't ...

Re: CPAP machine turns itself off?

The healthcare provider said that I had a 2-year warranty...and it just lapsed. He said oftentimes the machine needs new filters, and he was sending me out some free of charge. But I'm going to try to get the local agency to pay a visit to look at it, and see if something other than the filters. Unf...

Re: CPAP machine turns itself off?

Thanks, GerryK. I've just experimented with both masks I have, wearing each for three or four minutes, then taking them off and letting them sit for at least five minutes. In neither case has the machine shut itself off. (Here's a case where I wish Big Brother really were watching, so I could see a ...

Re: CPAP machine turns itself off?

Thank you both! I don't know if that's it, restedgal. Because when I left the mask completely out in the open for six hours, not touching anything but my nightstand and with the mask exposed to open air, everything ran as planned. Could the machine somehow sense that a seal against my face has been ...

CPAP machine turns itself off?

Hi all: I am still new, adapting to my machine. Last night, I woke up after about 4.5 hours with the mask on, and my machine was off. This had perhaps happened once prior, when I was still adapting to the mask...once when I took it off in my sleep and found the mask on my nightstand, I believe the m...
