Wish I could help you with your answer about graphic ads, Becca. Maybe you can use the Ask Question function at the top of the page for that. I was just trying to help you since you wanted to talk about your business, and the "curious" thread seemed like a good place,m since everyone was doing it ov...

Thank you, Snoredog. I went to Baylor College of Dentistry.

Becca, have you seen the "curious" thread? Everyone is giving their biographical information over there.

Sorry, Caroline. BTW, Dr. Remmers is very humble, and he has never told me he "invented the CPAP", but I have had quite a few others tell me he did. Then when his PR people sent the wording that was copy/pasted to the DOSA web site, I didn't read it closely enough to see the difference. Not sure I f...

[quote="chdurie2"]but i am just such a stickler for accurate presentation of information, and i find subjectively distorted presentation of facts so misleading.

Hey Snoozie. Swordz might have already helped a bit, but let me expand a bit if it would help. The problem your dentist might have pointed out was most likely the fact your tongue is collapsing against the back of your throat and fluttering, which is the snoring sound. Most dental devices are MADs (...

Oops. I am very sorry, and am glad I was corrected. Apparently, the fact I have always been told Remmers had invented the first electronically monitored CPAP meant he had invented the CPAP, but that is obviously wrong. From now on, I will only answer questions I am asked directly, and stay out of ev...

I appreciate your concerns, Caroline, and do not blame you for having some negative feelings about any dentist at all, specifically me. Kinda comes with the territory, and it seems like you have had some bad experiences, for which I am sad to hear. I mistakenly assumed you knew who John Remmers was....

I won't speak for Karen, but I certainly appreciate the words of defense. I have been on bulletin boards, forums and email lists for 10 years, and definitely understand the angst involved when an advertiser comes in, makes a pitch, then leaves. I don't appreciate that. I have absolutely no financial...

You are much better off with a CPAP than a dental appliance, so you are fortunate. I wish all CPAP users were as compliant as you.

The fact you have TMD issues brings up another reason for education among dentists supplying appliances. These can't be ignored.

OK, I knew someone would ask these questions, so I really don't mind answering anything you guys want to ask. That's why I made the offer to begin with, and in fact, I appreciate the dialogue. It's all about learning. DOSA was actually founded by Dr. Bruce Baird, who asked me to be the co-director w...

Good points, Swordz. There are more than 90 dental appliances alone on the market (not all FDA approved), and as I counsel dentists frequently, if they are prescribing the same one to all of their patients, they are doing them a disservice. On a new patient today, we went over various dental applian...

Thanks, Bella. I almost always type OSA or obstructive sleep apnea, but must have done that in haste. Thanks for the clarification. I definitely know the difference.

If you become "CPAP intolerant"

For those of you who do not know, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine came out with new guidelines in February, stating that the CPAP was the gold standard for severe apnea, but that for anything less severe, a dental appliance is an acceptable form of treatment. We started a new group called the...
