In the mean time I opened up the device, and it looks like the RJ45-connection is the EIA/TIA 561 standard. So I will give it a try.

Skip the cable and use a compact flash card instead, i did it last night with a 8mb flash card and it was easy as eating cake and used a digital camera to transfer the files to the computer since i have no other means of reading flash cards. I am wondering if you have the same machine, since mine u...
