Re: New here and new to CPAP

I won't go into the machine, although I also think you need to be able to check your AHI easily. Some DMEs will keep how to get into the clinical menu a secret (control freaks) but you can get the info here or elsewhere online. I've used my CPAP for almost 4 years. Went from being too tried to even ...

Re: Machine ate my card!!!

I did indeed get the new Resmed S9 as when the old machine was opened up and the card retrieved it would not start up again. I got a rental but new one is being delivered this morning. I had to fight with the DME insurance lady however. My Medicare has been met but not my high deductible secondary (...

Re: Machine ate my card!!!

Yes, the machine is not new but I love it and ordinarily, it works great. (I did get a new Wisp mask which is sooooo much more comfortable) Where you put the card has a top and bottom section. I stuck it into the bottom, not top. I will put tape over the bottom part of the "slot" so I don't do this ...

Machine ate my card!!!

I have a Resmed S8 Series II. Tuesday I had an early morning appt. with my pulmonologist and without my contacts in (major mistake right there!!!) stuck my card in to get data to take in. Unfortunately, I stuck the card in the wrong slot, the card disappeared (!!!!!) and now the machine won't work. ...

Re: I'm having a "DME headache!!"

I guess I just get irritated with incompetency (with so many people needing jobs, surely they could find people are would learn about insurance) and most certainly don't want to be taken advantage of. I was polite on the phone, just would not give in that I owed the $265. Once my insurance "you owe ...

Re: Does anyone drink on c-pap?

One thing I've found in my XX years of life is that every person's body reacts to things differently. I guess I'd go by how the wine affects your AHI and how you feel the next day.

Re: I'm having a "DME headache!!"

Cute! However, this mess is exactly why I never do automatic withdraws. Maybe I'm a secret control freak but I don't want someone else deciding for me what I owe and taking it automatically. The initial mess up was that I just didn't know what I was doing. We newbies are still in a fog and tend to b...

Re: Does anyone drink on c-pap?

I'm sure we have forum members who could give you much more medically technical info than I, but it seems that alcohol would relax the muscles thereby allowing more apneas or hypopneas - sort of counteracting what you're trying to accomplish with the CPAP. I have heard various places that drinking a...

Re: I'm having a "DME headache!!"

My problems dealt mainly with the fact that when I purchased the initial equipment, January 15th, my insurance deductible hadn't been met. Now, perhaps the various companies handle billing/deductible issues differently BUT, if they're working in the billing department, it's their JOB to know how the...

I'm having a "DME headache!!"

I'm joining the ranks of those who are frustrated dealing with DMEs!! After four phone calls trying to get my billing straightened out (the Respitec billing reps seems to be clueless - or maybe just evil) I finally had to contact my insurance company's Resolution Department rep. to try to get throug...

Re: AHI Up, AHI Down, how to level it?

I just saw my doctor's respiratory therapist today and I asked him why I have occasional high AIs - doesn't coincide with a higher leak rate, could it be from a different sleeping position, GERD....... His answer was that it usually means you've had more REM sleep than normal. That is something we h...

Re: AHI Up, AHI Down, how to level it?

I was diagnosed with GERD - don't recall that I ever had heartburn or even burping much. I did have lots of coughing and my esophagus felt "irritated" - like I could feel the air moving up and down as I breathed. Everyone is different so you just have to start taking note of things - maybe even jour...

Re: Big improvement

Forgot to mention the other improvement - I used to wake up around 2 AM, went to the bathroom but then would lie there awake for a couple hours. Now I usually sleep through the night. Even the psychological aspect of knowing you've had 8 straight hours of sleep is great.

Re: I'm almost done with these masks & cpap therapy

I'm not able to help you with the mask issues (there are many who have more experience and can) but I just want to encourage you to hang in. I started therapy mid January and I'm at a stage where I feel it's two steps forward, one back. I had a good weekend - didn't feel full of energy but I didn't ...

Re: Newbie would like to hear success stories, please.

I'm not "there" (whatever that is) yet and still have days that I want to find the nearest corner, crawl into it and take a nap BUT for those of you who might have read and remember my post before Thanksgiving - that I was just too tired to even think about cooking a Thanksgiving dinner - I wanted t...
