Re: Living at 5500 feet versus sea level
Pbriggs, we moved from 8000 ft in the Western Sierra Madre Mountains in Michoacan (Mexico) down to a small town in Colima at 3000 feet. We're about 20 kilometers south of El Fuego, the most active volcano in Mexico. Both locations have intense rainy seasons for several months (and then a drier-than-...

Re: Living at 5500 feet versus sea level
Pbriggs, We've been living at 3000 ft since last March (7 months). So far I've not needed supplemental O2 as my O2 sats are always very good. My average cpap pressure has decreased to between 6 and 7 and my AHIs are 3 or less. For someone with chronic mountain sickness, the doctors said I should not...

Re: Living at 5500 feet versus sea level
I lived at 8000 feet for almost 8 years and my health slowly went from good to total crap. Last year I was diagnosed with Monge's Disease, aka Chronic Mountain Sickness (CMS) (I was diagnosed at National Jewish Clinic in Denver.) I no longer can live at altitudes over 4000 feet. Chronic mountain sic...

Fisher Paykel Sleep Style 200
I'm thinking of buying a used Fisher Paykel Sleep Style 200 from an online source, for a back up machine. The owner used it once and refuses to use cpap ever again, or so he says. The machine I currently use is a Respironics Remstar System One. Does anybody out there know if this Fisher Paykel Sleep...

Re: Any mask suggestions for a person with a big nose?
I forgot to mention that he has also tried a nasal-pillow mask and he absolutely hates it. He said he feels like he's smothering with it on and his apneas were actually worse than with any of the other masks.

Any mask suggestions for a person with a big nose?
Hi All. I'm writing for my husband. He started on the S8 Elite last fall. He's really glad to be using it, but he hasn't had much luck with any mask so far. He has tried the FlexiFit HC407 Nasal Mask, Respironics ComfortGel Full Face, and the ComfortGel Blue Nasal CPAP Mask. All of them leave his no...

increasing incidents of periodic breathing
I read through some recent posts on periodic breathing but couldn't find what I was looking for so I'll post this as a new topic. I've been using my machine faithfully since October 2009. My results are between 3.5 and 1.0 apneas/hypopneas each night, which I'm very pleased with of course. However, ...

Re: Remstar Auto A-Flex--how do I get into clinician mode?
Hey Hawthorne! Thank you so so much for your response! I knew this message board would come to my rescue (yet again). This forum is the best in the world. Y'all are all fantastic. This forum has taught me about sleep apnea and how to use my machine to my maximum benefit---I'd be lost without y'all. ...

Re: Remstar Auto A-Flex--how do I get into clinician mode?
Okay, I just realized the title to my post makes not one bit of sense since I'm already getting into the clinician mode by simultaneously holding down the big gray button and the little button. After about 10 seconds it beeps and let's met get in. But I'm wondering if there's something else I need t...

Remstar Auto A-Flex--how do I get into clinician mode?
My DME grudgingly replaced my Remstar Auto A-Flex System One yesterday because my machine was failing to give me info on a regular basis. I assumed the new machine was the same as the old one. It looks the same. It has the same name. But it's not the same. I'm having issues with it that I can't seem...

Re: Fisher Paykel Zest CPAP Mask
I have to say that my rubber band idea has turned out to be a real loser. It seemed to work okay, but.....I just now went to empty out my humidifier and clean the mask, and, uh......the rubber band is gone. I have no idea where it is. It didn't swallow it, I didn't breathe it in, it's not in the hos...

Re: Fisher Paykel Zest CPAP Mask
PS--I forgot another alteration I did. I wrapped a small length of stocking around the "elbow and hose swivel" part. I felt like that part needed protection from condensation. I was in a hurry and so I just wrapped the bit of stocking around it and tied it. I guess I should make something more attra...

Re: Fisher Paykel Zest CPAP Mask
Hi RaggedyKat, I have the Fisher Paykel Zest mask. I got it in Sept of this year when I got my sleep study done. They charged me $300 for it and now I find out that it costs less than $80 at cpap. Why is this not a crime, I wish I knew. I like the Zest better than the Opus 360 nasal pillow mask (I g...
