Sleep study? Really? Just to get a new machine?
Hi everyone, I was diagnosed with sleep apnea in the fall of 2008. I've been using the same CPAP machine ever since then. 100% compliance since night one -- I love it and am glad to know I'm healthier than I'd be without it. It's time for a new machine! :D Since 2008, my overall health has been unch...

The Absurdity of Shopping for CPAP Equipment
I spend about a third of the hours of my life with a CPAP mask on. So do millions of others. And yet there is nowhere a person can go to examine the dozens of different mask models -- pick them up, look at them, listen to them, try them on. Same thing with the machines themselves -- no showroom wher...

Best place to sell?
I have a just-barely-used CPAP machine that I wish to sell. In your experience, what is the best, most reliable online venue for selling quality, barely-used equipment? (I'm assuming it's not craigslist...)
Thanks for any suggestions.

A Ventriloquist Darth Vader
Hi everyone, For almost two years I've been using an Escape S8 CPAP machine. Very happy with it. I adjusted to CPAP surprisingly easily, and kind of liked the constant, soft white-noise-like "whoosh" of the machine I was using. It didn't have many bells or whistles, but I didn't mind. Recently I've ...

Re: machine recommendation
Yes, this will be out of my own pocket, so cost is also one of the factors. That's an important detail!

machine recommendation
I guess this is my day to post questions! (This is my second one in a row...) The machine my DME "issued" me (and which I now own outright) has no data capabilities. I wish I had known enough back then to ask for a different machine, but I didn't. Anyhow, my question is this: if I were going to repl...

Weight loss: recalibrate pressure?
Hi everyone, I have dropped about 14 pounds (hooray for Weight Watchers!) recently from a starting weight of 207. On my way, hopefully, to a goal weight of 185. My question is: at what point (if at all) is it advisable to reduce my CPAP air pressure as a consequence of weight loss? In the last coupl...

Re: A $$ question
OK, folks ... situation basically resolved. A kind person at my DME agreed to do a conference call with me and their billing department, and it turns out that more than 300 of the 600 they were asking for was the result of an insurance company error -- not giving me credit for all the rent I've paid...

Re: A $$ question
I will indeed keep people posted on the outcome. For now, I have begun to get sucked into a Bermuda Triangle of confusion, where the 3 points on the triangle are the DME local office, the DME's billing office, and the insurance company. Each is telling me the situation is not their problem and that ...

A $$ question
Hi all, I could use a little advice about the cost of a CPAP machine and interaction with insurance. Here's the deal. I got my S8 Escape a year ago through Lincare. (This machine is available for $720 through online sellers.) I paid rent on the machine monthly, with a portion covered by my insurance...

Resmed Escape S8 w/humidifier ... in Europe?
Hi all, I've got a week's travel in Europe coming up. Can I just stick a basic European adapter plug onto the plug of my Escape S8 (and its humidifier) and plug the thing into a European wall socket? The Resmed site says that the Escape S8 is safe to use overseas, but it says something about how you...

Re: Exhaling with the Swift LT
Why read with the gear on? Well, at bedtime, if I feel like transitioning straight from reading to going to sleep, without having to first turn on the machine and put on the gear, I like to get it all set up while the light is still on and I'm still awake. Also, most nights I wake up between 4 and 5...

Exhaling with the Swift LT
Hi everyone-- I've adjusted quite well to the Resmed Activa mask ... but it annoys me that it's pretty much impossible to read in bed because the thing is bulky and blocks vision out of one or the other eye. So I thought I'd give the Swift LT (nasal pillows) a try. I used it last night and was reall...

Travel woes w/hose suspension stand
Hi all, Just back from my first airplane trip in which I carried with me, in a big carry-on bag, this CPAP stand. On the way out, TSA didn't say a word. On the way back, they came within a whisker of confiscating it and were only very grudgingly assuaged when I insisted that it was a medical device....
