Re: starting this thing soon and very upset
Animallover, I am coming up to four months on CPAP, and I would not go back to where I was for anything. While I have had my moments of sadness and feeling like my body is betraying me (due to the OSA and other health issues), my only regret is that I did not start therapy sooner. While it may take ...

Re: Hypersomnia
The study shows that I entered REM sleep within one minute of laying down for these naps - which the Doc said is typically thought of as "impossible." The report lists "severe objective hypersomnia." Your doc is a bit off in terms of what he thinks is impossible. In studies where participants were ...

Re: Medic Alert for ONLY apnea?
Once at the hospital, if I required surgery, a doctor would be able to call the number listed on my bracelet for more information. That is when they would get the information on my titration, etc. At least, this is how Medic Alert explained it to me. Another advantage of going with Medic Alert is t...

Re: Went to see the sleep doc and GUESS WHAT I GOT?
As a health care provider myself, my advice is to find another doctor (even if far away) for at least a second opinion. Clinical judgment is important, but not to the exclusion of data and research. If he can't explain why his opinion differs from the research recommendations, then he is likely not ...

Re: Why not hate the CPAP
MauraAnderson, I started treatment about the same time you did - and I can identify with your post. I am not angry at all about my diagnosis or treatment. If anything, I have been dealing with anger over not knowing about OSA and getting treatment sooner. I find myself wondering what I could have ac...

Re: CSI Vegas and sleep disorders
Well, the cpap user apparently was still new at it - he said he had a sleep deficit due to sleep apnea. Still thinking about a narcoleptic with a sleep deficit...hmmm... Ahh, but remember - when he falls asleep from the narcolepsy he still isn't getting restful sleep (unless he is using his CPAP).

Re: Respectfully, who runs this board?
I am very grateful for this forum! My doctor and I discussed surgery - but I have so many obstructions in my nose and throat (not to mention jaw position) that it would require a major overhaul (short of a tracheostomy - which has many issues itself) and likely not be as effective as CPAP therapy. T...

Re: Will You Get the Swine Flu Vaccine?
So my neighbour next door just died of complications of the flu or cold. We don't know because the stubborn old coot refused to go to a doctor even when hassled this week by his friends who wanted to take him to ER when he was having trouble breathing. But he is dead and the community here will mis...

Re: Sleep study says I have it, but...
As for me, when applying for disability at age 54, I found little comfort in remembering how well I functioned for so long without treatment. Kathy I can identify with Kathy here. I recently started CPAP treatment (a little over 2 months now), and I am in a mourning stage over what I could have don...

Re: Sleep study says I have it, but...
Keep in mind, you may not have the traditional symptoms now, but you have a great opportunity to prevent them. Over time, untreated sleep apnea will create many problems for you. If your sleep study shows that you have severe apnea, I would not wait to start treatment until you have symptoms. Head t...

Re: Treatment vs. Panic attacks
I was going to seek professional help for my panic attacks, but I consider it a last resort, as I don't want to take nothing other than over the counter stuff. I believe the advise that has been given and I'm going to wait for the quality sleep to be my medication, thanks to everyone that has comme...

Re: Treatment vs. Panic attacks
Yasulh, you explained everything SO well! I'm really happy that you and the others are here to shed light on this. I don't think this is an uncommon experience, and just knowing that can bring some relief. I knew about the role of oxygen deprivation and the fight-or-flight response our body goes th...

Re: Treatment vs. Panic attacks
Put into perspective, you've only been using CPAP for 2 weeks. You've had sleep apnea for years. It does take time to fully heal from that -- body, mind and spirit. Be patient with yourself and the process. Once you get the mask issue resolved, your sleep will be more restful and restorative. Consi...

Re: Resmed S8 Elite filter shock
Thanks Katie W, that looks like what i would rather have, not some generic piece of sponge. yes Arizona gets very dusty, we do clean our house regularly but dust always seems to fly in as soon as you open a door or window I'm so shocked about the dust in my filter I am thinking of spending the extr...
