Re: Any Transport Drivers from Ontario Canada?

Not a transport driver, but in Ontario. When you get your sleep study, and usually at your doctor they ask you the standard questions to assess your level of sleep apnea. One in particular asks if you have ever fell asleep driving, at a set of lights etc. I am positive if you say yes to that, they w...

Re: Any advice for an overnight flight? And how not to snore?

Decided to try the Mandibular splint option and ordered one from eBay for about $25. Will see how it works and post my results in about a month's time.

Thanks for the advice!

Re: Any advice for an overnight flight? And how not to snore?

Air Canada web site says you cannot plug it in to the onboard power outlets, and that to use a CPAP machine you must have a gel battery (of a type they approve) . Long story short-they are not CPAP friendly. It's a moot point, because I am not buying a battery anyway. The business class seat is a po...

Any advice for an overnight flight? And how not to snore?

Have been using a CPAP for about 8 months now, and it has worked well for me. However, heading on a 12 hour overnight flight and I cannot use a CPAP on the flight. Air Canada does not let you plug them in. I have no problem with that--I can go one night without it....but...I will have a lie flat sea...

In the meantime....any of my Toronto peeps got any recommendations? I saw one in Richmond hill but haven't investigated them yet. Kiralynx-since you have an interest in the topic, here is a web page on Wikipedia you may find of interest. Just found it right now. I just skimmed through it, and it looks like it was primarily written by someone living in Ontario..

Re: Problems in Canada with Socialized Medicine?

I would say problems are encountered waiting for specialists, also finding doctors in small towns. Remember Canada is a large country, but only has 1/10 the population of the USA. Not many doctors want to work out in the sticks or the far north. One thing no one has pointed out is differences in lif...

Re: Problems in Canada with Socialized Medicine?

Kiralynx-yes, I think that is a fair summary of the Candian system. I have lived in 4 different provinces, and each one has its own way of doing things. Some provinces (I think only 1 or 2 now) charge a monthly premium, waived if you are low income. Most do not. Some provinces are very good at what ...

Re: Newbie Q:How long did it take you to get used to it?

I am new to CPAP and have had 15 days with the machine so far. I guess I am one of the lucky ones, as I seem to have adapted more or less right away. I knew as soon as I tried a nasal mask that it was not for me, so I am using a full face Quatro. The day I got the CPAP, I just hooked it up and figur...

Well if a tennis ball doesn't work, how about a few golf balls in a sock. I can't imagine anyone sleeping on their back with a golf ball underneath them!

Re: Problems in Canada with Socialized Medicine?

Hmm, I have to remember one of my health goals this year is to reduce my blood pressure (and hopefully CPAP helps),but reading some of these posts sure ain't helping my pressure! In any event, I am Canadian, and am happy with the system. It could be improved, but most systems could. It is certainly ...

Re: Cleaning CPAP Equipment

I will add my two cents. In addition to the normal manuals you get with CPAP/mask, I got a brochure from the DME about cleaning and mainetance. I would say the manufacturer's brochure handles individual situations, but they give a brochure saying this: Mask: Wash face before putting on mask. Clean m...

Re: How Much Did Your Sleep Study Cost?

I live in Ontario, and it did not cost a thing to me or an insurance company. All paid by OHIP (Ontario Health Plan). Provincial Health plan covers the doctor appointment, the specialist appointment, the initial sleep study (9pm to 6am) and the titration which is in about 3 weeks. In addition, they ...
