I used to have the same problem but this changed when I switched over to the Resmed Nasal Pillow FX. I feel the contant pressure won't let my passages clog (and helps in declogging a blocked passage). You are allowed one handbag in addition to the CPAP equipment. I've not been stopped by any airline however you may want to reconfirm it with your airline. I believe there is some FAA rule which exempts CPAP (and cerain medical) equipement from being considered as hand baggage.
