Re: Analyzing the data from my sleep tests
- The report has a section headed diagnosis that says: " -Obstructive Sleep Apnea 327.23 - Periodic Limb Movements of Sleep 327.51" However, there is no real interpretation of this. What do these numbers represent? Looks like you've been given a diagnosis... A related classification, the Internatio...

There are many factors to consider here. Not to discount the heart issues, which should be dealt with primarily--I'm not able to comment on these. With regard to the sleep studies and related data that you supplied... Starting with your current (?) Epworth scale of 12: the hypothyroidism may be more...

Re: I ask for everyone's (including Muffy) help.....
Breathing at that pressure is like trying to drink from a fire hose. One prime justification would be the high pressure (>15 cm). I think the standard protocol is to try a bi-level machine during the titration if the pressure reaches that point, but many labs don't follow the standards. Another majo...

... no AHI figure but she said the Arousal index of 8.5 meant AHI 8.5 OK. So, if the best they got you to was an AHI of 8.5. Sounds like they didn't do a very good job of titrating you. ...A CPAP of 8cmH2O proved suffiecient to eliminate snoring and almost all obstructive respiratory events and mai...

Re: Man switches to BiPAP from CPAP and struggles
Based on your 14/6 setting, your 'Pressure Support' (PS) would be set at 8. A setting of 12/4 would also imply a PS of 8. This is probably too much! I'm told by sleep doc that a PS of great than 5 means you're being 'ventilated'. Unless you have some lung disfunction, I'd tweak that setting way down...

Re: Help to Interpret PSG Report Please
I have been considering buying an apap for sometime, but based on these results do you think it worthwhile? That depends... ...on whether the 'arousals' on the report could be reduced with increased pressure (OA, HYP) or whether they are spontaneous. (i.e. Is your AHI 8+ ?) ...on whether or not you...

Re: Thinking maybe Bipap might help
Jason,
I had a similar experience going from APAP to BiPAP. My usual 90% pressures ended up at 16/13 on BiPap versus 17 on APAP. My original CPAP titration in the lab was prescribed at 19cm. I had a similar problem with swallowing air also.

Re: Would you look at my titration report please?
The tech didn't stay at 10cm very long...the most significant point is there is no REM activity at 10cm, but there is a 11cm. At 9cm you had just one event, but that is enough to bump you up. I've never seen 0.5cm bump on a titration report...1cm adjustments are the norm. Not sure why the tech moved...

Re: New Sleep Study
Nope. Although that would be an inspired choice by the manufacturers, but NO! You need a new machine. Check out the Resmed S9 or Respironics PR1 (on the sponsor's site of course). There are others, but these are the major players. In any event, be sure to get one that records data AND is an auto bi-...

Last night I put the upper pressure at 20...I check my results this morning and my AHI is 11.5. I feel much better, but I don't like the AHI number...I need help in trying to figure out the best pressure range to lower my AHI number. 1. Are you still tired? If you feel better, the therapy is workin...

Re: Help! Long hypopneas and frequent awakenings
If your current CPAP was set at 10.8 and the range from the DME for the APAP was 5-15, you could try combining the two: 10-15. This equates to a range of -1 cm to +4 cm relative to your CPAP setting. The lower level is what counts. 15 is a good upper limit if the OA's are already under control. Over...

Re: I have Kaiser and have never seen a sleep MD
I have Kaiser in So Calif. The quality of the sleep doctors vary. Once I found this forum, the only reason I needed to see them was to get the machine ordered. Unless you're having a specific problem you're just wasting the co-pay for a specialist. The Kaiser RT seem to know more able the machines t...

Re: Hat in hand, to present my own sad case to the Brainiacs
OK...but you asked, so I'm telling. You don't seem to be entering sleep stage 3/4 at all(?), and your REM latency seems quite high. So there IS a sleep architecture problem, no? A look at the oximetry with a hypnogram might be helpful to see what's behind the high number of arousals. This might tell...

Re: High Pressure Woes
Initially had a Quattro FFM. Started to leak around 15. Switched to UMFF. No leaks from 17+ with APAP, but felt like my face was in a wind tunnel--just like those old NASA movies of that guy on a rocket sled with no wind shield. Much lower pressure with Auto Bipap (90% 16/13).
