First night with Quatro

Last night was my first night using a Mirage Quattro full face mask. I had been using a Fisher & Paykel Zest nasal mask. I tried a full face mask because of persistent nasal congestion that was not helped by any combination of sprays, rinses, humidifier, etc. I also was still snoring some of he time...

Re: Problems in Canada with Socialized Medicine?

..Stop Calling it Socialized Medicine!! ..... No. I will not. Every country is somewhere on a scale between socialism and capitalism. There has never been a governed country that was purely capitalistic and there has never been a country that was purely socialistic (not even any of the communist co...

Re: Had my followup apointment.

Rustyolddude, Your story sounds a lot like mine. Not quite at 70 days, my CPAP therapy is pretty successful in terms of numbers but I don't get enough hours of sleep for it to make much of a difference. My sleep doc is unwilling or unable to address my insomnia as a sperate issue, which it clearly i...

Re: Will You Get the Swine Flue Vaccine?

1) I managed to get the swine flu before the shot came out. I don't usually get a flu shot and I don't know if I should get a regular flu shot now or not. I was not tested for swine flu but, based on the sysptoms and the fact that it came from an outbreak at my daughter's shool, I'm pretty sure it's...

Re: Seeking input on Rx Sleep meds, SSRIs, insomnia treatment

Rustyolddude, I’ve got plenty of co-miseration for you but, unfortunately no practical advice. I have pretty severe insomnia in addition to OSA. I’ve tried to explain to my sleep doc that they are separate issues and she responds by continuing to tweak my CPAP therapy, as if that were the whole solu...

To my 11 year old daughter it is just part of the whole "my dad is weird" package.

Re: POLL: Typical AHI for ResMed Users

I'm pretty lucky I guess. I'm a relative newby and my AHI is 1.8. AI is typically 0.0 to 0.1. One odd thing I have noticed. On some occasions I will wake up early and check my data. I put my mask on to try to get a little more sleep. I don't fall asleep so I take the mask off and check data again an...

Re: Chin Strap compliance

I'd say you're totally justified, especially if you're feeling better. I have no idea why the doc thought a chinstrap was needed, with numbers like those. She did it because, at one point, I was told that I was snoring. That was before I increased my pressure (without her permission ). Since then m...

I recently called ResMed and talked to one of their techs. I was concerned because I am using a non-ResMed mask and wanted to find out if the leak rate was accurate. She told me anything below 0.4 L/s was good.

She was generally quite helpful and informative btw.

Re: Chin Strap compliance

Forgot to say my AHI (pre-chinstrap) was <1 with 0.0 apneas. Am I not justified in thinking that my SA is being successfully treated?

Chin Strap compliance

Yesterday afternoon the brown truck of joy delivered a box from my DME containing a Ruby adjustable chinstrap, as ordered by my sleep doc. At bedtime I put the thing on, put on my mask and promptly fell asleep. I slept for just under three hours. I woke up very uncomfortable and wide awake. In the s...

Re: Dreams

The only dreams that I had for a few years pre-CPAP were dreams that i was suffocating. They were obviously not dreams at all. Since I have been on CPAP I have been remembering more "normal" dreams than I have in a couple of years.

Re: How Do I Handle My Doctor?

QUESTION: What do I tell my doctor? I'm in the same boat. The lag times and miscommunications between my doctor, my DME and myself would be a comedy of errors if it were not such a serious issue. I had the audacity to bump up my CPAP pressure 1 CM H2O, which solved my problems. The way I see it, I'...

Nope, not an any meds at all. I do think though that stress/anxety/depression plays a role in my sleeping problems, in addition to the purely physical causes.

Update Re: Apnea, insomnia, snoring and doctors

I increased my pressure from 7 to 8 cm/H2O with great results. I am no longer snoring and my AHI has gone from 4.7 to 1.5. Instead of only getting 4 hours of sleep each night I am getting 6. Not as much as I would like, but a very significant improvement.

Thanks for all the help!
