I, too, am a mouth-breather. At first I did OK using the Tiara chin-strap but even it still does not keep me from awakening with terribly, painful dry mouth all of the time. I've had the blowfish problem, too. I've been on CPAP since Feb. I've tried taping--never thought I'd resort to it. I tape acr...

I often have puffiness around eyes and swollen face upon awakening, as well. Also strap marks. Don't know what causes it or what to do. Anyone?

trazadone

I have been on CPAP since the middle of Feb. I have taken Trazadone at night for many years to help with sleep due to rheumatoid pain. It is very effective for me and I continue to take it with the CPAP. It is not the dose for depression. Good luck.

Activa mask adjustment

Hi Suserbec, I like the Activa and I found as I adjusted to using CPAP that I started feeling suffocated when I put the mask on, also. What I did was adjust my ramp upward from 5 to 7. Soon, I will probably adjust it again 2 more points. I am getting used to my air pressure (15) and when I don't get...

I also tried the chin-up strip for one night. It didn't seem to help and it was ouchy removing it the next morning. My clinician suggested I use it AND the chin strap. That's more than I want to do! I will stick to the tiara topaz chin-strap for now, although on my back, I am aware of exhaling throu...

Hi Blueeyes, I wear the Topaz chin strap. I like it. I have not had any problems with breakout. I believe the fabric is neoprene--have you had problems with other headgear from the same type of fabric? I would (hand) wash it well and rinse it even better and see if that helps. Also, do you wash your...

melatonin caution

Hi all and especially dkeat--My husband uses melatonin when he travels internationally and it helps him a great deal. He does not use it routinely. I asked my doctor about using it and his answer for me is no. I have several forms of auto-immune disease and take 11 medications. For me I am not able ...

moleskin?

dkeat--I have not yet tried a full-face mask but having read through the forum others have mentioned moleskin to pad the forehead before--have you given that a try? It would be thinner than the wad of toilet paper. Good luck.

sleeping with husband

Sleepeygirl--I started on CPAP the middle of February. I was really worried about the noise, but it doesn't bother my husband at all. I am more likely to wake him up if I adjust my mask during the night and it "honks" or whistles--finding the Activa mask has helped that. I had the wrong mask and it ...

Hi Nanshell--I, too, had my sleep study done in January. I was at first just provided a bottom-line machine and mask and not given any choices. I found this forum and learned a lot. I went back to my provider (doctor's office) and told them I was returning everything because I hadn't been given any ...

Wow, I took a week off the cpap forum and found this great thread when I returned! How fun it is. What a great group of amazing people. I only discovered the forum about 6 weeks ago (right after I started CPAP) and it has helped me so much. Thank you all. OK, I am 49, just under 5'10" tall, plus siz...

Any idea when this will be available? It looks really interesting--the headgear looks more comfortable than the Aura. I did a search on Google and couldn't find it on any site but Respironics.

Moogy--My pressure is 15 and I am currently using an Activa mask. It seals very well. It is a bit noisier, I notice, than some I've tried, but being able to turn side to back without loss of seal is a good thing. So, that is my experience, for what it's worth. Good luck.
