Re: When did you start feeling noticably better?
You don't mention whether you have the software and a card reader to view your data in detail. If you can't see what's going on while you're sleeping, you can't make any changes to achieve more effective treatment. Perhaps you're experiencing high mask leaks or high AHI numbers; unless you access y...

When did you start feeling noticably better?
I've been suing the CPAP since mid-April and while I do find I usually am waking up a bit easier, though not at all easily mind you, I'm nowhere near feeling "like a new man" as several folks I know (doctors included) had suggested. I will say this. I took a few nights off from the CPAP to (sorry if...

Re: Anyone "take breaks" from their CPAP?
I did a few weeks ago. Forgive me if this is a bit gross, but to explain the reasoning... I had a zit under my nose right where the nasal mask sits and it wouldn't heal. I took a few days off to let it heal. Now, I've been feeling like this thing isn't really working all that well (been on the CPAP ...

Re: questions from a CPAP noob
bump to see if there are any fresh insights. And to follow up on my last post, second night with the nasal mask I decided to drop my pressure from 18 (min)/20(max) to 16/18. Leak rate was a little higher at .04L/s, but HI dropped to 2.5, AI remains 0.0, and I made it through the night with apparentl...

Re: Severity of your OSA
When they told me they saw 400 events over the course of 4 hours of sleep data, my first thought was "no wonder I can't get up in the morning!"

Re: questions from a CPAP noob
Do you still have the mask cranked down tightly? Not as tightly, but still rather tight. Anyway, the new mask finally arrived yesterday. It's a Mirage Activa nasal mask, however they forgot the chin strap which is now on the way. The pros: - MUCH more comfortable. It's not only not cranked down on ...

Re: New Here and Hello
Best wishes and congratulations! I hope you dream tonight...! (OSA prevents you from reaching the level of sleep where dreams come. You may not have noticed, but ask yourself when was the last time you dreamed. I dreamed my first night on CPAP. The dream itself wasn't that memorable, but it was my ...

Re: questions from a CPAP noob
Next question: Does the leak rate my machine lists include the expected leak rate for the mask? At 20cm pressure, it looks like my mask should have a leak rate of ~47L/min. Doing the conversion, since my machine gives it in L/s, the leak rate with the large seal was 80.4L/min. I used the medium seal...

What's the usual sleeping position for CPAP users?
I assumed some folks on their backs, some on their sides, but in reading up on things here it seems like side sleeping is actually a problem for a lot of folks. Furthermore, the $1450 mask article makes mention of people wanting a mask that allows them to sleep on their side. Is side sleeping with a...

Re: questions from a CPAP noob
Your leak rate is way, way, way too high. Anything over about 0.2 is too high. Make sure the mask setting on the machine is correct. The machine is not helping you with lead rates that large. I'm not sure what the setting options are, but it says "mask: standard" in the menu. Does a FF mask = stand...

Re: questions from a CPAP noob
Cranking them down tightly is only encouraging more leaking. If your L is leaking (and those numbers should be below 0.5L/sec), then the fit is absolutely wrong. I did find the other seals. He stuck them in the bag, I didn't realize it. I'll try the medium out tonight as last night was miserable. G...

Re: questions from a CPAP noob
First of all, as Hawthorne says, there were 3 seals that came with that mask (if the DME didn't give you all three, then please call them -- don't listen to them if they say they need to bill separately for them, they don't, the original package had all three). Then I discovered the mask straps nee...

Re: questions from a CPAP noob
After figuring out how to get into the clinical menu on my machine I got the following data. Could somebody give me an idea of where this stands on the scale of good-bad? AHI - 1.1 AI - 0.0 HI - 1.1 Leak - 1.34L/s I'm guessing the HI/AI thus the AHI is quite good considering that during my first sle...

questions from a CPAP noob
Hi all, I've been using my CPAP for about 2 weeks now and have a couple of questions since I have no idea what's normal and what's not. My first night was awful and I ended up taking the mask off after about 3 hours. The next 2 nights I toughed it out and felt GREAT the next morning. Ever since then...
