Re: Who do you tell, and when, and why?
I've told everyone I know by writing a blog about it on myspace. I waited until after 5ish months on CPAP. I wanted to really make sure it was going to work. Also, I was preoccupied with other stuff. I had planned on writing the blog around month 2. For me, I think my treatment has been really a big...

Re: odd side effect: air inside under lower eyelid
--just to follow up, scuba-style equalizing works for me to solve this occasional side effect. It affects me for a few minutes once every 4 or 5 nights. --- Thanks! Well, good to know i'm not the only one out there. Maybe Scuba-style equalizing is what i need to do. Haven't had that happen myself, b...

Re: Portable Solar Power for Your CPAP Machines
It looks really good. But: My concern is price point. Little by little, solar is getting more efficient and cheaper. If the same system was available within 25% of competing non-solar battery back ups, i'd buy it. But its currently at 3x to 4x the price. Once the price falls to $550-ish, I'm in. Dig...

Re: Sleep study ripoff
Wow, that's about 10x what I paid. I have a high deductible AETNA plan -- so I paid essentially out of pocket. I had 2 overnight sleep studies (one no cpap, one with cpap) & 3 total consultations with my neurologist / sleep doctor. The total for all of that was $1850. I also paid upfront for my mach...

Re: Depression
I was, as it turns out, mis-diagnosed with major episodic depression twice, once in 1999 and then again in 2004. Both times I went to the doctors and complained of highly disturbed sleep, lethargy, and extreme frustration and sadness that I couldn't seem to get any thing done in my life -- I was con...

Re: Swift LT Mask Leaking at Frame and Elbow
. And complete Swift LT every 6 months. Not sure if that means thats how often they should be changed, but that is what is covered by insurance. However, I just keep what the DME sends me, and I am still using my original equipment. 6 months indicates something towards the mask's wear and tear. But...

Swift LT Mask Leaking at Frame and Elbow
I noticed a few days ago that my Swift LT Nasal Pillow Mask is starting to leak a little -- not at the nostril seal, but actually at the Frame and Elbow. It leaks when i shift in bed or if the hose moves a lot. Fortunately I have a Ultra Mirage FF mask as a back up, which i've been using instead -- ...

Re: Great difficulty sleeping-Head cold
I seem to be coming down with one of those rare summer-time rhinovirus-type head colds right now. Took me awhile to find the thread. I agree with the advice, seems sensible. This is my first cold I've had since I started CPAP therapy 4 months ago. I'm hoping that CPAP makes the common cold much easi...

odd side effect: air inside under lower eyelid
I'm having an occasional, odd side effect that sometimes wakes me up or else makes it a little difficult to fall asleep again. It's only happening under my lower right eyelid. Seems to be worse with my FF mask. This is what happens -- air enters (my guess, through the sinuses) and my lower eyelid be...

Re: Ultra Mirage Full Face, Advice wanted: Irritation at seal
If you were watching Conan while wearing the mask.......that could account for those feelings....... No, seriously, we don't breathe the same when we're awake as we do when we're asleep.......but maybe a little more pressure (to flush CO2 from the mask) might not be a bad idea. Did you wash the mas...

Ultra Mirage Full Face, Advice wanted: Irritation at seal
So tonight I planned on test driving my new alternate mask The ResMed Ultra Mirage Full Face CPAP Mask. I also got the Padacheek too, and it does make the cheek straps easier. Well, much earlier tonight at 8 pm, I spent about 20-30 minutes reading the booklet and searching for the correct adjustment...

Re: Sleep walking and OSA?
That would be interesting to know! My family has a history of many sleep disorders, particularly. Rapid eye movement behavior disorder, which some people think as "extreme" sleep-walking: when people act out their dreams. My father and sister seem to have that the worst, where sometimes it happens s...

Re: Regis Philbin on cpap
All my life, I've taken pride in being consciously non-conformist and individualist in my music choices, philosophical outlook, traveling, clothes, etc. When everyone else wore white gym shoes, I was wearing black boots. Now the mainstream has gotten into the CPAP! Now, what am i gonna do ??? How wi...

Re: Slept without my CPAP last night
I know the feeling. I've been on CPAP for about 90 days now. I use it for every nap (so few now compared to the bad old days) and every night.
Except one-- when the power went out for 10 hours, starting at 2:00 am... So then i got a dose of what it feels like to stop CPAP therapy.
