Re: OT: My dog had a Seizure tonight
Oh, dear! Is there an emergency vet clinic near you? You might get to know them just in case you'll need them in the future. One of my cats is diabetic. I've had him to the emergency vet at times like 8 pm on a Friday night and noon on a Thanksgiving Day.

Re: Interesting Week
One thing that dawned on me last night was I've been taking synthroid for about a year for low thyroid...part of the whole fatigue thing that lead me to treating my apnea... and wonder if the xpap therapy has reduced my required dosage? I doubt that there's a causal relationship. However, it won't ...

Which study? My Sleep doc is anti-auto, and I'd like to read this study to critique it at my next appointment.chunkyfrog wrote:--citing the slanted study we read about here.

Re: Denial: Mother In Law Dying Slowly Cu'z Doesnt "Like" Hose
For years, I tried to talk to my sister about her smoking and drinking. About 5 years ago, she was diagnosed with esophageal cancer, and had her esophagus removed. (Smoking and drinking are major risk factors.) That didn't stop her. She stopped for good on March 12, 2011, the day she died.

Re: Ultimte Chin Strap
I've used the UCS for about a year and love it. Full-face masks caused jaw problems for me. The strap is much better for me.

Re: theophylline helps?
I just looked in MEDLINE (the main database of peer-reviewed medical articles in the world) for central SA and theophylline. There were 7 articles, 5 of which were about CSA and heart failure, focusing of the effects on the heart. One was not relevant for the question. The other was iffy in my readi...

Re: Please help my dry eyes
I've had severe dry eye syndrome since before I was diagnosed with OSA. I use Restasis twice a day, GenTeal Gel at night and what ever preservative-free lubricating drops I can lay my hands on at any particular time during the day. I use a cloth sleep mask at night, but I cut the nose off. Works for...

Re: Any recent Colonoscopy participants here?
I agree that the prep is the worst part. My last one had another problem - I was so dehydrated that the nurses couldn't get the IV started. The anesthesiologist had to do it.

Re: [OT] Should I stop eating Wheat ??
I'm going to be a contrarian here. I don't think wheat should be avoided unless it causes you something like pain. It does for me. I don't have celiac, but gluten intolerance. If I eat as much as 6 saltine-type crackers, the next day I have pain in my belly. In the last few weeks, I seem to be more ...

Weight loss and OSA
I just saw this article: "Effects of Dietary Weight Loss on Obstructive Sleep Apnea: A Meta-Analysis." According to the abstract, the conclusion seems to be that weight loss helps reduce the severity of, but does not cure, OSA. http://www.springerlink.com/content/11773ug7441113p5/

Re: Need a good chin strap
I use The Ultimate Chinstrap. You can google for it. Yes, it's expensive (about $60), but it's the only thing that's worked for me. Some folks here have described it as a "Hannibal Lechter" strap. Yes, it does look strange, but I find it comfortable and it works for me. I will admit to not having tr...
