Re: Looking for input on CPAP setup / new forum member

I went through something similar when I changed my mask and turned EPR on. My AHI also went up a bit during the first month until my body adjusted. What you describe with the pressure staying around 7.8 is exactly what I saw. Raising the minimum to around 8.5 helped a lot, not by much, but enough to...

Re: Increased Daytime Anxiety and Depression

In my case (NYC) it was an overlap: my body was adjusting to the new sleep sensations, and my mind was interpreting them as danger, which made the daytime anxiety and OCD flare up. I worked with Manhattan Mental Health Counseling on gradual exposure to the post-night triggers and on breaking the day...

Re: Pressure feeling in chest

That chest pressure likely comes from your CPAP pressure not matching your needs when you skip the mask. Passing out is serious, your oxygen probably dropped too low. Raising the pressure helped because it improved airflow. If it keeps happening, get your settings checked. Don’t skip wearing the mas...

Re: Power Consumption

Your CPAP uses 150 W. For 8 hours, you need about 1,200 Wh.
A power source rated 300–400 Wh won’t last the full night—only 2 to 2.5 hours max.
Get a battery with at least 1,200 Wh capacity to run your CPAP all night. Check watt-hours, not just “hours” on the label.

Re: CBD (from cannabis) oil and deep sleep

I came across this thread by chance and wanted to add something. In my case, CBD really made a difference for deep sleep, especially after stressful periods. The regular oil didn’t help me much, but I found that the products from Joy Organics work much better for me – they have mint-infused options,...

Re: Relationship between consumption of alcohol and sleep apnea

Yeah, alcohol really messed with my sleep apnea too. Whenever I had more than a drink or two, I’d wake up feeling completely unrested, and my AHI spiked noticeably on those nights. It makes sense because alcohol basically relaxes your throat muscles more than usual, which just worsens any obstructio...

That actually looks like a solid option for folks who can't keep their mouth closed at night but don’t want to deal with chin straps.

Re: Anyone using MAD device and CPAP ?

I mostly use CPAP, but when I travel or have a cold and can’t tolerate the mask, I switch to the MAD. It’s not as effective, but it helps enough to get some decent sleep. I have mild TMJ and the device didn’t make it worse for me, but I did have to get it adjusted a couple times.

Re: help

I’ve read that some people dealing with chronic sleep disorders, especially when anxiety or pain is involved, have found some relief with medical cannabis. There’s a clinic called Alternaleaf in the UK that offers personalized cannabis-based treatments — might be worth checking out the patient revie...

Re: I have a terrible sleep. Please help!

That could be a sign that a standard Auto CPAP may not be the best fit. Auto CPAPs are mainly designed for obstructive events, not central ones, and they can sometimes even worsen central apneas in some users

Re: “Mask needs adjustment”

Consistent leaks can make the therapy less comfortable or disturb your sleep, even if the numbers look good. You might still wake up more or feel less rested. If that’s the case, trying different mask types (like nasal vs. full-face), adjusting the headgear tension, or using a CPAP mask liner could ...

Re: Change pressure on bpap machine?

Yeah, on a BiPAP, the 17 is your inhale pressure and 13 is the exhale. That’s a decent gap, but it can feel like a lot if the mask fit isn’t perfect or you’re not used to it. If it’s blowing your mouth open, you might need to lower the pressure or use something like a soft collar to help keep your j...

Re: restless sleep

A few months ago I kept waking up from vivid dreams and feeling like the mask was glued to my face. The worst part was this buzzing awareness of the machine, I couldn’t un-hear it. That mental noise just wouldn’t shut off. What helped me was adding CBD oil about 30–40 minutes before bed. It didn’t k...

Re: MAD oral appliance effective alternative to CPAP?

MADs can work well for mild OSA, but with TMJ it’s a gamble. I tried one a while back—helped a bit, but my jaw was pissed off the whole time. Definitely talk to someone who actually knows both sleep and jaw stuff (not just a random dentist calling themselves a sleep expert). If CPAP’s working and yo...

Re: Cancer

That burning smell isn’t normal at all, especially if it’s waking you up and irritating your nose like that. I’ve been using CPAP for years and never had anything close to that. If it’s been going on for 2+ years , nd getting worse, I’d honestly push hard for a full machine replacement, not just sup...
