Re: So just what am I in for?
Why might they have made me spend two nights rather than doing a split-night deal? Isn't a split night the usual-care protocol now? My sleep center seemed a little annoyed that my doctor ordered a split night up front. And they may have had a point since I didn't sleep at all well during my test. B...

Not to be contentious here . . ., OK, maybe a little, but . . . Just to play devil's advocate let me present an analogy (intellectual property right arguments are nothing without a lot of analogies). Just because a restaurant allows free refills of coffee or soda doesn't mean they are giving it awa...

Byronrw, In many ways a baseline for these figures is irrelevant. It doesn't matter what the average shoe size is when you're trying to find a shoe that fits you, only your shoe size matters. Neither does it matter what pressure is "normal", it only matters what pressure is necessary for you. That s...

Re: vertigo
So you continued using cpap and then the vertigo still went away? How long did it take to totally stop? I'm not ready to say it's gone, It only started eight days ago. It bothered me strongly for two days, then subsided. This was at the level of mild to moderate vertigo where the room would seem to...

Funny you should mention it. I went to the doctor a week ago to complain about dizziness that had been bothering me for a day. I was bothered by vertigo sitting, standing or lying down. The doctor couldn't find anything wrong and suggested it would probably go away in a few days, which it pretty muc...

Unplugging the machine before removing the card was just me being paranoid, I can hardly believe it would be necessary. It just goes back to training in best practices of computer maintenance, where its always safest to kill the power before plugging or unplugging any peripherals. I do find it odd t...

Proper use of Respironics SmartCard
Has anyone got any tips on the proper use of the REMstar SmartCard? The manual just says to, "Contact your home care provider for further information about the SmartCard". Since the sleep center doesn't expect me to be reading the card myself, I doubt they'd be much help. Being paranoid, I only inse...

I like to play by the rules when it comes to software, since I'm a programmer myself. I only take a program for free if the author wants me to. I'm a big fan of free software, but feel you shouldn't "liberate" what wasn't intended to be made free. You are extremely unlikely to be prosecuted for soft...

Is it considered rainout when the problem is at the mask rather than the hose? For the first time in over a month on xPAP I had a problem with condensation last night. I woke up with a wet nose and a lot of beads of water in the mask. It looks like my breath condensed inside the mask and a couple in...

I can't understand how a person wouldn't benefit or like C-Flex, the only thing I can think of that might be better it Bi-Flex. I can see how it wouldn't be for everyone. I've just spent two nights on a REMstar Auto with C-Flex after starting on five weeks of straight CPAP at 10 cm/H2O. I found sta...

Re: My first night on APAP
That would agree with the data I see from my oximeter. Hypopneas by themselves rarely cause much difference in oxygen saturation and as I've been able to swap apneas for hypopneas, I do sleep better. It's those nasty apneas which cause so much grief. Many people have even questioned the wisdom of u...

My first night on APAP
After a month on CPAP with a REMstar Plus I convinced my doctor and DME to give me a REMstar Auto, since I didn't sleep well during my sleep study and wasn't convinced my titrated pressure of 10 cms/H2O was correct. I picked up the new machine yesterday which the sleep center set to a pressure range...
