Re: Sleep Study
Wow, mine in Tokyo was only about 63,000 yen ($643 USD) even before insurance got involved.

Re: A week on the hose hanger
Anyone out there without a hose hanger - you need to seriously think about getting or building one. I sleep on a futon (not the American-style wooden contraption, just a thin mat on the floor) so I can't get one of the ones that involve sticking pipes/etc under my mattress. I jury-rigged something ...

Re: First 2 nights on cpap
Well last night was my 2nd night on cpap. So far so good, just had one issue last night with a good seal but after I sat up and tooka second to readjust it was fine. I really feel it the next morning. Guess you and I are CPAP buddies, I just had my second night too! I'm having some hose issues; ton...

Re: CPAP in the movies or on tv?
Coincidentally, I just saw that episode. Junior was prescribed a CPAP machine, and there was a scene when he was at home with his girlfriend and fell asleep on the sofa and she put on the mask for him.BGman wrote:I heard sleep apnea mentioned once on the Soprano's. Never saw any equipment, though.

ResMed: Will reading/writing the smart card reset it?
My doctor gave me a smart card to take home with my ResMed Autoset II and told me to put the card in before my next visit and bring it so he can have a look at the data. Being a curious type myself, I would like to download the data and look at it beforehand. Will that screw up/erase/reset the data ...

Re: First PSG last night, disappointing(?) results
Thank you all for your encouragement. I just wanted to follow up to my own post. I have the human re-scored PSG and a lot of the "waiting to fall asleep" time, scored as "Stage 1" by the computer was re-scored as "Wake". This made the AHI go high enough to qualify for Japanese health insurance. Stat...

Re: Digital Video Recording Sleep
Oddly enough, the website doesn't provide "Where to buy" information for North America. The camera currently available in other parts of the world for an equivalent of US$35. I couldn't find that one, but I did find a different model online for 4000 yen, less than 20% of what I paid for the sleep s...

Usually CPAP cures sleep apnea in the same amount of time as eyeglasses cure myopia.

Re: ot- computer clean up program
At this point it might not be a pad idea to pay the couple hundred bucks to have the local computer nerd do it for you... Well, I don't know what the rates are where you live but here we'd pay about 30,000 yen ($350 or so?). This is a lot cheaper than having to reinstall everything...

I've realized reading this that in Japan, we have it good in some ways and bad in others. For us, there's no messing around with referrals from other doctors.. If you suspect you need to see a specialist of whatever kind, you just call him up and make an appointment. I had my first appointment with ...

Re: First PSG last night, disappointing(?) results
After doing a lot more reading on the subject, I figured out that by "sending the data off to be analyzed", they mean send it somewhere for scoring; the printout that I had seen was scored by software and they'll have it scored by a human. I guess Japan doesn't use the overnight scoring services tha...

First PSG last night, disappointing(?) results
Hi there, I went in for a sleep study last night and I don't think I did a very good job of sleeping. I am not used to sleeping on my back and I was worried that I would pull out all the wires if I rolled over onto my side. After several hours of drifting in and out of sleep, and seeing weird vision...
