Having Major Surgery...Have Questions

I just found out that I need a complete hysterectomy and it will be done Nov. 1. (Age 54 - postmenopause) Should I be concerned about the apnea issue? What have your experiences been with being under anesthesia for approx. 3 hours? I was diagnosed with sleep apnea last Nov. and got the machine in Ja...

A Milestone!

Well guys, I've reached a milestone! The "odometer" on my machine turned over 1000 hours last night (1002.7 to be exact)! I never thought I would be able to stick with it this long (Since Jan. 10). I had multiple problems from the beginning with mask, uncooperative DME, etc. etc. and at first I was ...

Anesthesia Question

I am scheduled to have an Endoscopy and a Colonoscopy on July 13. I'll be getting both ends scoped at the same time! Anyway, is there anything I should know about the "happy sleep" stuff they give you before I have this done? I made sure I told the gastroenterologist I have sleep apnea (several time...

My sleep study was Nov. 8 and I didn't get CPAP unit until Jan. 10. (I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield, but it had to go thru a 3rd party for approval first.) Yeah, I wasn't thrilled about being started on the CPAP, but that's a bit ridiculous. No classes -- no nothing. I was on my own. Sure wish I had ...

In my case, my dr. prescribed heated humidifier and DME brought it to me, but insurance rejected payment for it. They needed a letter indicating "medical necessity," and it was finally approved after 4 1/2 mo.

I was also on Prilosec for over 2 yrs. for acid reflux. I have been a "hosehead" since Jan. 06 and stopped taking the Prilosec also in January, but I can't honestly say that the CPAP treatment is what has alleviated that problem. I also have been on a diet (Medifast) since Jan. and have lost 35 lbs....

I want to get a Smart Card Reader soon so that I can monitor my own progress, also. I really feel in the dark, and confused, about what is really working (or not) and why. Sometimes I feel lousyer than other times, even when using the same mask for multiple nights. My DME has yet to ask for my Smart...

Yeah, I realize, of course, that I have to pay any co-pays that may be due to the DME, but yesterday's conversation with them just made me feel they were holding equipment "ransom" until I do pay. But as I said, they haven't even sent me a bill for the balance due! I spoke with the ins. co. today re...

OK -- Now I'm mad.....

Spoke with some woman in the DME's billing dept. today -- again! -- because I was supposed to have been eligible for a new mask thru my insurance March 30. I was told when I called about 2 weeks ago that there was some eligibility letter that they send out (to inform you that you are now eligible fo...

Apparently my insurance (which is not all that great) replaces every 3 mos. I thought that was pretty crappy when I still haven't found a mask I can live with and can only change every 3 mos., but I guess I should consider myself lucky if some only allow every 6 months!! It is my understanding also ...

Dry mouth even WITH tape -- why?

I am still trying various masks to try to find something I can live with but anyway, when I use the direct nasal type (Swift, F&P 481, and NasalAire II) I wake up several times during the night with very dry cotton mouth. This does not happen, however, with the ComfortGel. I am not sure why and how ...

Is your doctor charging you $100.00 over and above the office visit to read the card? Yes. I received one of the Explanation of Benefits letters from my ins. co. last week and it showed a charge of $100.00 for a "Breathing Test." I knew that I did not have a breathing test on that particular day. I...
