Re: Unexpected Negative Effects (Psychological) of Using CPAP

In my mid 20's I had the hardest time ridding myself from a drug addiction. I had a bunch of other problems I had to tackle but the biggest was the drug use. After kicking that I would often feel worse and wondering why I quit and my shrink at the time would use the analogy of a car with smoke comin...

Re: I don't know which mask to choose

just my 2 cents

I really liked the Swift LT - Would still use it if I could keep my damn mouth shut while sleeping... As others have said, it's very easy if you're a side sleeper.

Re: Nasal Congestion while in therapy

Just a bit of advice if you end up going with a really low setting on the humidifier (like I needed to do for the same problem). Have some chap stick at the ready. I've found the lower setting much better but the cooler dry air drys my lips up after a few days. Good Luck from a fellow mouth breather!

Re: Slightly off topic - Reverse Apnea

Congratz on the new addition - I remember my first night sleeping on the "daddy bed" next to my wife in the maternity ward... them things ain't made for comfort!!! If I'm left without a machine, a trick I used to use before I ever knew about cpap was to use a small fan on my night stand and point it...

Please keep up with the ramblings - it's the best way I've found to know that I'm on the same track.

Re: When will I feel better?

Looking back to my first night, it was identical to what you describe. But I think we would be better to describe it not as an instant cure. Instead, I look at it now as an eye opener to just how poorly I was sleeping prior. I've been keeping small notes to track my progress. Try keeping track of ho...

Re: 2nd. Night-Not so good...

I tried somthing interesting the last couple nights with the same mask. I sleep on my right side so the mask is pushed to the left side of my face when I lay on my pillow. So what I did was adjust it so it leaked ever so slightly on the right side of my face. Then, as I snuggled in to get comfortabl...

Re: Still fighting with it

Hey OC - The mouth thing absolutely killed me. I had the same nose pillows and just didn't get any consistency. Ended up with a full face and fell in love with it. I'm able to get up to 5 hours in just a couple weeks. Because I'm still new, I haven't made a big deal about my numbers yet. I'm going t...

Re: how many masks did your tech try on you?

At my sleep study - they were very good at explaining the process and the therapy but knowing what I know now, I wish I had done more research. They tried me with a nose mask (unsure the brand). I hated it so when they came to set me up, I opted for the nose pillows. That took about a week to THEN f...

Re: So Close ...

Hello, I had the same mask till a couple weeks ago. Ask your husband if your mouth is open when he hears the sound. My wife noticed it with me and it came from my mouth being open which just negates the therapy. I had to switch to a full face mask from the pillows. If you don't / can't try another m...

Is sleep apnea "curable"

My Father asked me the other day how long I would need my cpap for and I wasn't sure how to answer. Are there any cases of CPAP users being "healed" and no longer needing treatment? It seems that there are so many different types of sleep apnea and associated treatments, that I've never really seen ...

Re: New Mask..

Exact same situation with me... I think the full face is just so much easier to use and miles ahead in comfort. (just my two cents!)

I don't have too much to add not knowing what you had before, but make sure the hose is on the mask nice and snug - I've ripped i t out in my sleep a few times.

Re: Removing mask while asleep

I had this same problem - I've found a few reasons and I've been trying to clear them up with some success. First and foremost, get into a ritual at bed time. I actually set up my machine about an hour before bed. And I'll lay in bed for a few minutes before putting the mask on as a way to get comfo...

Up to 5 hours - now what...

Hi all - after trying all 4765432 things suggested to keep my mouth closed with my nose pillows, I gave up and convinced my insurance to fork up cash for a full face. I wish they had given me the full face mask in my sleep study cause it's the best mask I've tried yet. So now I'm up to about a good ...

Humidifier - Running out of water

I didn't fill up the tank with enough water and it was empty when I woke up... Not sure how long it had been out.

Not that I'm going to make it a habit, but will that damage my humidifier in any way?
