Re: "Backup" mask for colds?
E, I've had the same concern but have ducked the problem for the most part. My DME said I ccan request a full-face mask at my next replacement interval -- something I've considered. As for the Afrin-type nasal sprays, I wouldn't dismiss them out-of-hand because of concern for rebound. Instructions i...

Re: Good nasal pillow mask for side sleeping?
Hi all,
I've had good results with my Swift LT. I occasionally stir after switching sides to tweak it a bit, but I can even pull the sheet or a pillow over my head -- street noise in summer.
Good luck,
Gary

Re: Mouth gets dry as a bone
Dave and all, I'm quite sure the issue is mouth breathing. Although the saliva flow decreases naturally during sleep, the bone-dry situation you describe must be mouth breathing. As I understand it, the full face masks are for mouth breathers. Rooster's take seems right on, but you still need to fin...

Re: OT: ACE Inhibitor Cough
I'll strongly echo the advice to NOT STOP your BP meds suddenly without consulting your doc! As has been pointed out, there are alternatives to ACE inhibitors with different side effects. Diovan is one which has worked for me, but there are several options. Sure, there are great ways to help with hy...

Re: Breathe Right Strips
Hi all, I also was a regular user of Breathe Right Strips prior to CPAP. I agree with the opinions that the original brand is worth any price difference over knock-offs. I've not had to try them with my Swift LT pillows, but I wouldn't hesitate. as my main osa blockage seems to be nasal. Good luck, ...

Re: taking xanax with apnea:please answer
If your xanax prescription was for a sleep aid or antianxiety, and you've taken it without problems before you started using CPAP, I would think you'd have no problem. I've been using CPAP for about six months with good results, but I do take an occasional xanax [previously prescribed] to help get a...

Re: Airport Security
I've flown a half dozen times in the last 6 months. All but one security point expected it to be removed from its case similar to a computer. It is usually swabbed, but there has been no hastle to speak of. I only took the machine out of the case as there were no concerns for the hose and mask. Thou...

Re: New CPAP user here...
David, I'm glad to hear you're adapting to mouth closure. I think it's a skill many of us can learn. If you get to try the nasal pillows or a nasal mask, there's good reinforcement for a closed mouth. When you open your mouth, you feel a rush of air out of your mouth. Close it, and you feel the pres...

Re: New CPAP user here...
Slinky, I, too, am a fairly new hose-head with rather mild apnea but loud snoring without the machine. My wife, I think, is happy to trade the white noise of the C-flex for the log-sawing. She also found the silence of the apnic episodes troubling knowing the significance. It sounds like David had s...

Re: Travelling with CPAP tomorrow - Opinions/Suggestions Sought
Evening all, I've been hosing about four months now. I took two trips by air in the past month and had no problems with the TSA check-ins. I learned that we simply inform the inspectors and unbag the machine like we do our computers. The TSA folks then took it aside, gave it a brief swipe with a che...
