Re: Being On Call and having interrupted sleep
I, too, work in the medical field. My employer might be breaking labor laws, but it is a small independent start up company without many employees, many of whom are my friends. I would not want to cause any problems for the owner or my friends, and like I said, I do like the money. I am going to re-...

Re: Being On Call and having interrupted sleep
I have to physically go in. I actually have to work from 2pm until 10pm, and then I am "on-call" from 10pm until 8am, so my only guaranteed sleep is from 8am until noon, when I get up to start getting ready for work. Also, on the weekend of that 7 days, I am on-call 24/7 (no guaranteed sleep at all)...

Being On Call and having interrupted sleep
I was diagnosed with sleep apnea 2.5 years ago, and I felt like CPAP saved my life. I used the machine religiously for over a year. Then I started a new job where I am on-call for 7 days straight out of 28. During those 7 days, I hardly get any sleep. I may get to sleep for one hour if I am lucky, w...

Re: Backaches
I've been wondering the same thing myself lately. I've been on cpap for 15 months now at fairly high pressures, and I suffer from aerophagia. My back hurts so bad after 6 hours of sleep, that I have to get out of bed to make it stop hurting. I am also convinced it has something to do with CPAP. I ch...

Re: Mirage Activa?
After trying countless different masks over the last 15 months, I have decided that the Mirage ActiveaLT is the best fit for me. I love it. I have a high pressure setting, and this mask does not give much leakage, however I have read that it is not so good at lower pressures. I can sleep in just abo...

Re: which mask is best for no leaks and noise.
I second the Mirage Active LT. I have tried at least 10 different masks, and I LOVE this one. My only problem is that I am a mouth breather, so I have to tape my mouth. Even with the tape,it's way more comfortable than any other mask I have tried. I am trying to find a full face mask that I can make...

Re: Mouth tape, drool and Lansinoh
I put a lot of burt's bees chapstick on my lips and all around my lips before I put the tape on. also, I purse my lips together while I am putting the tape on. This seems to help get a better seal (lip pursing), and the chapstick seems to help me from getting sores or chapped lips, dryness.

Re: Pressure setting changes
This is pure speculation, but it's possible the titration said 17 and the "1" got lost somewhere along the way...Stranger things have happened. In any event, I'd go with what the Auto says. You might also tighten up that range a bit. The machine starts the night at the lower limit. If it detects ap...

Re: Pressure setting changes
Good leak rate, ideal is as close to 0 as possible and 47 is close. The pressure difference is confusing & I cannot understand why there is such a large difference. Gained lots wt since titration? Really stressed? New prescriptions? Lots of congestion-sinus problems? Actually I have lost 20 pounds ...

Here's a graph of the vent rate for ResMed masks & the associated MASK SETTING to be entered into a ResMed flow generator: http://www.resmed.com/us/assets/documents/service_support/pressure_flow_rates/1012648_pressure-vs-flow_usa_eng.pdf According to the chart, at 18 cmH2O, the vent rate for the Ac...

Re: Pressure setting changes
Hi, That leak number seems about double what it should be. Each mask has its own leak number, so you would have to look it up in the patient manual that came with your mask. When the leak number is high, the other numbers are going to be off, too. For example, the machine may have adjusted the pres...

Pressure setting changes
I've officially been on xpap for 1 year now. My quality of life has greatly improved, but I'm still struggling to figure everything out. I recently got an APAP machine. When I did my sleep study, I was set on straight CPAP with a pressure of 7. I kept not feeling good, so my family doctor advised me...

Re: CPAP + Provigil
Do some research to find the model of data capable machine you want. Then have the doc script that make & model. Get this script in your hand. Your insurance will cover the change. But then you will need the reader and software which the insurance will NOT cover. Improving your therapy will help a ...

Re: CPAP + Provigil
Well, I told my doc that i'd mull over the provigil idea for a month and discuss it with him at my appt next month. Until then I'll try the caffeine. I will most likely buy a data capable machine next year. Thanks for your input Rooster.

Re: CPAP + Provigil
I have thought about upgrading to a data compatible machine, but it is cost prohibitive. I've only had this machine for 6 months now. When I started therapy, I knew nothing about it, and this is what the DME company gave me. Of course now I realize I need a better machine, but I really can't afford ...
