Health Insurance and Sleep Apnea
Hi All, I am going to be laid off effective June 1, 2009 and in case Cobra is too expensive which I am thinking it is going to be, has anyone living in Michigan had any luck with getting a private policy with sleep apnea being considered a prexisting condition? If you know of any health insurance co...

Re: Unexpected Negative Effects (Psychological) of Using CPAP
Sorry to hear all that you are going through. I too have anxiety and depression msyelf. Although I have not noticed the side effect you have had from CPAP I am still tired from still trying to adjust to sleeping with the machine. Be very gentle with yourself during this time and please keep taking y...

Re: Weird smell...
This made me laugh and smile. On a more serious note, I too have woken up to foul odors coming through my mask. It is sometimes a stale smell or like meat that has not been put away on time. I just washed everything except the machine of course in dish soap and that seemed to help. I may also be due...

Re: laughing stock of the hospital
Gasp and others: I am so sorry to hear about your experiences in the hospitals. It sounds like all doctors regardless of their specialties should be mandated to seriously study diabetes. I am glad to hear that all of you are serious about taking charge of your health. I will pray for each of you and...

I have been blessed by second chances in my own life and I cannot imagine not passing on that same blessings to others. Kudos on apologizing and welcome to the forum. Hopefully, in...

Re: laughing stock of the hospital
Sounds like your experience is very strange. How could they not know you have diabetes and need medication? Scary. Glad you made it out okay.

Re: Has anyone else experienced narrowing/swelling of the throat
Thyroid can definitely do it especially if you have a goiter, or increased size of your thryroid it can feel like you have a constant lump in your throat and it can make it difficult to swallow. Speaking from personal experience. Mine is not associated in any way with CPAP. My advice is the same as ...

Re: PurSleep Product Safety
SAG, I never meant any disrespect by my comments. I am so sorry to hear about your difficulties with exposures to a majority of products, cleaners, etc. I hope that living close to the ocean is helping with the breathing difficulties that you experience on a daily basis. I think you called it enviro...

Re: 3 MONTHS AND SUCESS?
A warm congratulations to you. I soon hope to be feeling good results from my CPAP therapy. Been consistent about two months now. Do feel some more energy during the day but looking forward to more. Keep up the good work.

Re: Diverting direction of exhalation air
Jim,
Very interesting idea. I had not even thought about that. That would definately work, would just need a way to attach it to the mask near the exhalation port. Any suggestions?

Re: COPdD girlfriend cancel sleep study. Help
I am curious as to what she is afraid of? Usually fear is behind our reluctancy to try something new. Is she claustrophobic? Many people on the forum would be helpful in terms of help or suggestions in adjusting. Myself I have only been on CPAP for about two months now and I am still in the adjustme...

Re: Diverting direction of exhalation air
Thanks all for your suggestions. They are helpful. I was almost thinking like moldable metal like on a finger splint and putting it a little away from the exhaust port so it would shoot the air upward or downward instead of straight at my husband's head. I will keep working on a solution and let you...

Re: PurSleep Product Safety
I love pursleep. I use it every night and I find that the relaxing scents usually dissipate after two to three hours. Just enough to help me relax and fall asleep. I agree with deb that if you have lung/breathing problems use it very sparingly or try it first and if you don't need it, don't use it. ...
