Re: Has anyone's bruxism been helped by xPAP?
I also want to mention that individuals with UARS have difficulty adjusting to cpap because their central nervous systems are highly aroused by all the nightime flow limitations. Don't feel bad it also took me a long to adjust to cpap like a whole year. I was one of the hardest things I have ever do...

Re: Has anyone's bruxism been helped by xPAP?
I too suspected that I had some sort of sleep disorder since I my sleep was always unrefreshing and I felt tired during the daytime. I also bruxed so bad I would get migraines. I had 2 sleep studies which came back negative, just listed snoring and unexplained arousals. I then went to the world famo...

Re: Apnea worse after surgery
Sometimes the UPPP surgery if done too aggressively can cause airway stenosis, a narrowing of the airway. There have been many instances of sleep apnea that have been worsened by the UPPP surgery.

Re: Orthodontics can cause sleep apnea - Class Action Lawsuit
I didn't feel an immediate improvement because the tracheostomy surgery itself causes a lot of mucus so breathing was difficult for the first 6 months or so - lots and lots of coughing and mucus sunctioning. I had to get a second surgery to remove scar tissue that had formed and enlarge my stoma. Al...

Re: Orthodontics can cause sleep apnea - Class Action Lawsuit
I don't use a cpap or bipap anymore. I just breathe through my stoma. The hole in my neck bypassed the upper airway so there is no need for a cpap/bipap. some people plug theirs during the daytime and leave it open only at night. I like to keep mine unplugged at all times.

Re: Orthodontics can cause sleep apnea - Class Action Lawsuit
I am sorry but I don't have copies of the x-rays. I did see my post surgery x-ray, my airway was much wider than before. I felt about a 30-40% improvement but I was still very symptomatic and my RDI remained unchanged. I asked my surgeon why he thought it failed, he said it must be because I have a ...

Re: Orthodontics can cause sleep apnea - Class Action Lawsuit
I too am a victim of the scam that braces are. When I was little I had a severe overjet "buck teeth" they used to say. Adults and kids would always make fun of my teeth so I became very self-conscious and would cover my teeth when I laughed. My mom took me to the orthodontist when I was 13 for brace...

Re: can all sleep studys pick up UARS
My EDS has improved significantly. I'm pretty normal now. I still need a short nap in the afternoon and get sleepy after a big meal which is common. I don't have that tired but wired feeling that I used to have and feel calm and relaxed throughout the day.

Re: can all sleep studys pick up UARS
Thanks for remembering me! You are so kind. Still constantly working on my sleep, as usual. Even though I don't have sleep apnea anymore (a sleep study confirmed this) I still have to be mindful of things that affect my sleep. After my trache surgery, I have become more sensitive to certain foods li...

Re: can all sleep studys pick up UARS
I had 2 sleep studies done at 2 different accredited sleep labs. The study results said mild UARS and snoring. I still knew something was very wrong so I went to the Stanford Sleep Disorders clinic and had a study there. I requested the PES monitor but found it intolerable - they thread it through y...

Re: Which surgeon to see?
Yes, I remember that post. It referred to the UPPP surgery which should only be done by a really good surgeon otherwise airway stenosis can develop. I am definitely NOT a surgery advocate. If you can find a non-surgical method to treat your SA than stick with it. Surgery should be only used as a las...

Re: Which surgeon to see?
I had the MMA surgery done in 2010 by Dr. Kasey Li. My lower jaw was advanced 12 mm. I don't know how much my upper jaw was advanced. I think anything less than 12 mm is too low, especially with your high AHI. The higher degree of advancement, the greater your chance of improving your sleep apnea. Y...

Re: New Member Mild OSA
Yes stay with it. Central sleep apnea often develops after first using cpap, after sleep apnea surgery and after tracheostomy surgery. The brain must become accustomed to the difference in airflow. It took me about 4 months to see a difference.

Re: Where are the good sleep doctors?
I like going to the Stanford Sleep Disorders Clinic in Redwood City, CA. They are pioneers in the field of sleep medicine and were the first to discover many sleep disorders. In my opinion, they have the most technologically advanced diagnostic equipment. The sleep studies are very accurate, for exa...

Re: Post-Surgery Blues: Scoring Question
I've always been very wary of this surgery. Very few people have had their apnea events fully resolved and many have had complications. Also, cpap is more difficult to use afterwards. I've also heard of several instances where AHI worsened after UPPP surgery even when performed at Stanford. I have e...
