Re: 5 hours of sleep is better than 8

Great article Jason. I too seem to feel much better on weekdays when I get about 7 hours of sleep than when I'm off on the weekends, and sleep longer. I was always curious about that ... guess there is a physical reason somehow for that effect.

Re: Board suggestions

40 Winks, have you tried the search feature at the top of the page? I'm fairly new too and I find it works quite well.

I was wondering where she was too. She always has such good information for us newbies.

Re: New CPAP'er looking for the Holy Grail

I'm an example of a user with an Auto that is not using it in that mode. I have an M series Auto Bipap with Biflex and I am using it now in straight Bipap mode. I find that I sleep better going straight to my pressures of 24 inhale and 20 exhale. I like the flexibility of being able to put it in aut...

Re: BiPAP and BiPAP Auto - what's the difference?

Patrick, that IS one sweet machine you have. I know, it's the same one I have. It's likely why my introduction to hose life was relatively easy for me. I really like that model.

Re: BiPAP and BiPAP Auto - what's the difference?

With the BiPap auto, which I have, you can use it in straight bi-level mode, or in 'Auto' mode you can pick a minimum pressure setting and a max pressure setting, and the machine will raise or lower pressure to eliminate apnea events. In the Auto mode you still have the bi-level pressures to ease br...

I have the same machine and haven't had any problems at all. I suspect you do have a defective unit.

Re: New Year’s Resolution - Happiness in 2009

Hi Dolores

Very nicely put. I for one have finally gained back my energy after using my 'hose'. I'm very grateful that I finally found out what was causing me to be so perpetually tired!

Re: AHI correlated to length of therapy?

Wulfman, I've noticed the same thing. My pressures are very high ... 24 IPAP ... and I suspect some of my readings of events are caused by ... well, self inflicted. I think that when I even change my breath rate, or cough into my full face mask, I set off the machine to record an AHI. I don't know ....

Re: Melatonin helps me

I tried melatonin, but I found that after prolonged use, it left me feeling like I hadn't slept very much ... perhaps not enough REM sleep ... I don't know. I quit using it. I don't like doing this, but I have to say, a distraction like the Pur Sleep product had me sleeping throught almost the first...

Re: Poll - How active are you in your treatment?

I’m a newbie with just over 2 months on XPAP. I was lucky in that I got a Respironics M Series BiPap machine with integrated humidifier because, I suppose, of my titrated settings of 24 IPAP and 20 EPAP. Anybody else out there with settings that high? I’ve taken the advice found on this forum and bo...
