I'm not all that familiar with the Resmed product line, I use a Respironics model myself, but if it is anything like the respironics models I'm betting that you may be able to change the settings without the use of a card reader ... although having the card reader would make your therapy a lot easie...

It really comes down to personal preferences, the two top manufacuturers are Respironics & Resmed, they both make good machines ... what you really want to make sure you get is a machine that is data capable.
