Obamacare and CPAP costs...

Now that Obamacare will be fully implemented, I wonder what is going to happen to costs on our machines since they will be taxed taxed and taxed? How much more is it going to cost us? Will sites like CPAP.com survive?

Re: Since CPAP, No More Viagara

For males, sleep doctors should specifically ask about erections during sleep periods. We males are lucky in that erections during sleep signal a healthy sleep cycle in achieving REM sleep. REM sleep is usually impossible for apnea sufferers or any other sleep disorders. So if you are male and your ...

CPAP equipment up in price or reimbursements down?

I just visited my sleep clinic for my annual and found out they no longer carry the original mask they provided me 3 years ago. I have ordered a replacement for the last 3 years annually. It was a sorry sir, we no longer carry that model because costs have gone up and we would lose money if we offer...

Re: wording of medical necessity letter

she said there may be a problem with my insurance BCBSNC covering it. Seems that BCBS is real stingy with replacements. As of 2011 my BCBSNC policy pays for no CPAP equipment at all. None the first time you are diagnosed. No replacements ever. No masks, no machines, no hoses. It is very clear in th...

Re: flu

All the more reason to make sure you get a flu shot!

As for me, there is no way in hell I can use a CPAP during a cold. If you literally can't breathe due to congestion and receive zero oxygen then one dies. The best solution available is to sleep on my side and deal with the situation as best I can.

Re: OT: Niacin vs Cholesterol

Niacin even in the smallest dose I could take didn't seem to affect my HDL but did however make me have night sweats. The night sweats went away as soon as I discontinued the niacin. I think you have to take large doses anyways to really move your HDL up. In this case, it is way more viable to incre...

This sounds like a line of BS to me. Besides, a competent doc should not have a problem with APAP's.

Re: Vitamin B-12 Deficiency

Check the meds that one is taking because there are quite a few of them that impair the absorption of B-12. PPI' s as the above poster mentions. If you are taking metformin that is another. Always read those papers after getting a new med filled. I always check this site too: http://www.rxlist.com/s...

Re: Flu Shots are out!

I agree with Otter. My employer has made it mandatory this year and I am not happy. Not sure what they can do if I do not take it, but I plan to decline. Will let you know. I don't know where you live, but I don't think that is legal in the U.S. EDIT: There may be exceptions for certain professions...

More bad news for apnea sufferers

For those of us with apnea that think we are losing our minds some days, you may be right.

Re: Chronic Cough

You can switch from one ACE inhibitor to another and rid yourself of a cough if it is the cause. All ACE inhibitors are not the same and affect one person differently from one ACE inhibitor to another. ARB's are another option. Stay away from beta blockers and especially so if you are diabetic.
