Re: Note: Opinions from Newbies are VERY Welcome Here

When I first joined the webpage, I was diagnosed with OSA, but I hadn't had my machine yet. I was looking for help, suggestions, support and most of all the feeling that I wasn't the only person with this disease. I also discovered some wonderfully helpful people, kind, caring and supportive. Howeve...

Re: Right v Left Handed Poll

It is a well known and scientifically accept fact that the left side of the brain controls the right side of the body and the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body. Therefore, it is also scientific fact that those of us who are left handed are the only ones in the "right minds."...

Re: what's a good ramp time?

It's interesting how different machines seem to set the pressure on settling or ramping different. My sleep doc started me with at home titration and an APAP machine (S8II Auto) but after a couple weeks, decided that one pressure setting was good enough and switched me to a straight CPAP machine. I ...

Re: What kind of bed pillow do you use?

In regards to pillows: I also am a side sleeper, actually I am a 4 side sleeper...side, back, stomach, side. I actually use two pillows. The bottom pillow is a regular pillow, made from regular foam. The second is an artificial down pillow, with hypoallergenic materials. This is soft and "scrunchy" ...

Re: Sedatives-Hypnotic Medication May Improve CPAP Compliance

Sedative Hypnotic medications are not always a good idea. I was prescribed MIRTAZAPINE by my psychiatrist for occasional insomnia. (Prior to my sleep study) I took the medication 3 nights. I hallucinated, had weird disturbing dreams, and said the heck with this. The pharmacist told me that that was ...

Re: Raising bed to ward off GERD

We have raised the bed 6" to help with my GERD. We've had it that way for several years now. I have not noticed any trouble with cold feet (however, my feet are usually cold when I go to bed anyway). My wife hasn't complained about cold feet either. Neither of us have had any trouble with blood clot...

Did you set the mask setting on the machine for your mask? That might cause some of the trouble....

Re: Oh, Wise Ones, I have ?'s

Hoping someone else adds to this but it is my understanding that there is 1 insurance billing code for the CPAP machines. As in, they get paid the same regardless if you get the Plus or the Auto. So, it is the DME's benefit to give out the less expensive Plus machine. Not sure how your insurance po...

Re: Silk pillowcases

I understand the concept of silk sheets and comfort....however, here in Northern Wisconsin, there's another consideration, warmth . While silk sheets might be slippery and comfy, there's nothing comfy about the sheets slipping off the bed and leaving you uncovered. That's why my bed has either fleec...

Questions about cleaning my mask

I am currently using a Mirage Quattro full face mask. I know that I am supposed to clean the seal area every day. Now, I have some questions about cleaning. 1) I've read that I shouldn't use dish detergent like Dawn because it can break down the silcone. 1 a)I've read that people swear by using Dawn...

Re: Pillow for side/stomach sleepers--simple mod

My wife got me one of those CPAP pillows, and it would be great except for ONE MINOR detail....it's as hard as a Brick . What I discovered is that my old fake down pillow, which had gotten too soft to use now makes a great second pillow...I sleep with one pillow on the bed and scrunch the down pillo...

Re: Still sleepy but I don't care...

You know, getting rid of the fog was one of the first things I noticed when I started therapy...and that was only 3 weeks ago. I am still tired, but I figure it this way, I've not been sleeping properly for probably 20 years...that means I could probably sleep for 20 years straight and that would pa...

Re: Which PPI for GERD???

I take generic Omeprozal, 40 mg. It's helped my GERD a lot.

But what helped even more was raising the head of the bed 6 inches. That made a big difference.
